The opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Finishing Grader Operator to be a part of our Regional and Freight team within Roads and Maritime Services. This position plays a key role in operating plant or machinery to a high level of skill to achieve predetermined tolerances and standards.

To be successful in this role you will have a sound knowledge of related work techniques and able to monitor and control the operation of all other plant and staff involved in the process being undertaken. You may be required to travel frequently around various sites in this role.

As the Finishing Grader Operator, you will be engaged in the operation of major plant items, and expected to trim and finishing grade to tight tolerances and achieve the specified standards for roughness, have a high knowledge of road construction and maintenance procedures and may control and direct other plant operators working on the same process. You will be a safety professional with the ability to understand and follow instructions and work procedures with good communication skills and the ability to work effectively and co-operatively in a team environment.

The salary for this role is RMS Wages Non Trades Pay Point 8 ($1,281.31 per week), plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.

Essential requirements

  • Meet the criteria for progression to Plant Operator Grade 3
  • Good communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and co-operatively in a team environment
  • Demonstrate performance of finishing of Base Course to the client’s specification in terms of both levels and roughness indicators
  • Meet the Supervising/ Finishing Grader Operator compulsory competencies (refer to Additional Information).
