Based in Canberra (with other arrangements considered), this pivotal role will be responsible for ensuring the Firm derives maximum value from it’s engagement with political and public policy figures through a strategic, meaningful and considered approach. It will serve as a valuable conduit between the government and PwC, advising on current and future political landscapes.
- Develop a strategic plan to derive value from political relationships, including by showcasing the firm’s work to political stakeholders in domains that build brand and reputation, by ensuring that government relations considerations are integrated into firm-wide campaigns, and by protecting the firm’s reputation in political engagements.
- Manage interactions with politicians and public policy leaders by assisting partners to access ministers, shadow ministers, other parliamentarians and their staff, including by developing or adapting materials and collateral, and by accompanying partners to those meetings.
- Understand the market and gather intelligence on future policy direction, including by ‘joining the dots’ to provide advice on political threats and opportunities to the Executive Board, and other internal stakeholders.
- Assist the Regulatory function with the development of submissions, and by preparing partners to appear and present at parliamentary or regulatory hearings.
- Work with the Risk function to identify, escalate and manage political risks, and educate partners about the importance of political risk management.
- Assist the firm to implement governance around political engagement and donations.
Skills and Required Experience
- Strong direct exposure to the process of forming and legislating public policy, ideally including experience working in the office of a state or federal parliamentarian.
- Broad knowledge of and curiosity about the business environment and a high level of numeracy.
- Outstanding written and verbal communications skills.
- Ability to work independently in a highly matrixed structure, including the ability to win the trust and confidence of internal stakeholders.
- Ability to distil complex information into core issues and succinct messages, often within tight deadlines.
- Ability to obtain results in the face of incomplete information, ambiguity or obstacles.
