2019 IBM Research Australia: Marketing & Communications Internship Melbourne

Your role will be to support IBM Research Australia to help raise the profile of our research achievements to local, national and international audiences. You will have a keen interest in research & development in technology and be able to use your passion for communications and social media to create impact

Responsibilities include assisting the Research Leadership team, especially with:

  • Interacting with the broader A/NZ and Global Marketing and Communications team (including Demand Programs, Global Headquarters, Brand Systems and Communications) to develop and update marketing programs and a "calendar" of activities relevant to IBM Research Australia.
  • Assist in the development of a wider communication strategy, ensuring that research communications plans are incorporated
  • Collaborate client visits with our THINKLab Client Engagement Leader
  • Developing marketing communications for internal and client distribution (including Newsletter content)
  • Helping develop social media enablement program – especially Linked In and Twitter – provide recommendations for Research strategy for social media, their individual profiles, content to share, connections etc
  • Monitor and track social media activity and news articles
  • Identifying relevant Thought Leadership and recommend the most effective way to weave this into key touchpoints
  • To create, maintain and manage research content for the AUR website.
  • To respond to requests for presentations from the Research Director and Associate Director, clients and co-labs.
  • Provide professional advice and guidance on research communication processes and procedures to internal staff
  • Provide strategic and tactical input and recommendations to the Research Communications Specialist
  • Assume additional responsibilities as required

Skills/Knowledge Preferred

  • Microsoft Office Suite - Powerpoint, Excel, Word (Intermediate)
  • Research capability – ability to identify resources, assets and skills from various sources, that are of relevance to our WIA team and their clients
  • Digital and social media "savvy" and interest in digital marketing
  • Exposure to HTML
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to prioritise work, set expectations and meet deadlines

This position is part of the IBM Internship Program. We will consider applicants who:

  • Are currently enrolled in a degree with marketing or communications major, and willing to defer or study part time
  • Have no more than 2 years relevant work experience
  • Have a strong academic record i.e. distinction average
  • Have permanent residency or are a citizen of Australia or NZ
  • Fluent in speaking English
  • Have or in final stages of a Bachelor’s Degree in, Marketing, Business, Commerce
