What we are looking for:

This newly created Senior Communications Specialist is a part time opportunity focusing on API & Developer Experience. It requires strong technical ability and communications excellence to help drive the strategic communications agenda for the Xero Ecosystem.

You’ll be responsible for developing and executing integrated communications strategies which touch the Xero API - from Xero business updates to communicating technical changes which impact how apps and developers connect to Xero.

To be successful, you’ll need to know how to connect and engage with developers, and be familiar with the platforms like GitHub and Stack Overflow. Not to mention well versed in all the lingo - from APIs and SDKs to programming languages such as Java, Python and Ruby.

This role is based in Auckland or Wellington and is a part time position for three days per week (this is flexible for the right person).

What you’ll do:
Develop and execute the internal and external communications strategies for the Xero Ecosystem; including programs which build our developer community
Intimately understanding all areas of the Xero API; building communications programs which help advise developers and customers of upcoming features, changes, or requirements (e.g. OAuth2 migration; updates to the Xero API)
Provide issues management counsel and support, working alongside our reputation management and incident specialists
Review and develop content designed for technical and non technical audiences (e.g. Developer blog, proactive messaging, holding statements, social content)
Work closely with the Ecosystem Content Lead to position Xero’s Ecosystem as best-in-class.
Work closely with the Xero ecosystem team - in particular the Xero Developer Experience and Partnerships & Evangelism

What you’ll bring:

You will have extensive communications experience in technology and experience communicating and engaging with developers. You will be energetic, passionate and focussed and you’ll possess a strong knowledge and understanding of Sass/platform companies and stay across industry news and information trends in traditional, online and social media.

Bachelor of Arts in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or Marketing preferred.
Excellent writing skills with a distinctive tone of ‘human’ and ‘accessible’
B2B enterprise/SaaS software experience highly desirable
Passion for developer relations
Excellent interpersonal skills to deal with general management, marketing colleagues, vendors, partners, customers and members of the public sector and business community
