Transport for NSW is the lead agency of the NSW Transport cluster. Our role is to lead the development of a safe, efficient, integrated transport system that keeps people and goods moving, connects communities and shapes the future of our cities, centres and regions.
We are responsible for strategy, planning, policy, regulation, funding allocation and other non-service delivery functions for all modes of transport in NSW including road, rail, ferry, light rail, point to point, regional air, cycling and walking.
We focus on improving the customer experience and contract public and private operators to deliver customer-focused transport services on our behalf.
We also lead the procurement of transport infrastructure and oversee delivery through project delivery offices and industry delivery partners.

The Director Software Development manages the design, development and deployment of software systems to support the business objectives of the Executive Director, Intelligent Systems, SCATS Senior Manager and the Director, Strategy and Product Portfolio.
You’ll lead the development and implementation of capacity building projects and products within TfNSW to ensure the quality of new and existing intelligent transport systems software, to support the delivery and integration of ITS Solutions and anticipate the evolving needs of intelligent solutions in a rapidly changing mobility sector.

What you will be involved in:
The successful applicant will manage the delivery of software development for intelligent transport systems projects, including senior level analysis, and detailed design, reviews, supervising software coding, testing and documentation, verification and validation, and configuration management.
The successful applicant will also be in charge of leading the rebuild of the critical SCATS system, which controls all traffic lights in NSW and hundreds of other cities around the world. Other key accountabilities include:
Identifying and evaluating advanced and emerging technologies and techniques that may enable innovative and effective ITS solutions by engaging in technical, environmental scans and literature research
Introducing a product management approach to large and complex systems, in order to ensure efficient ways to customise and evolve for different applications
Managing system design and development processes for allocated projects by the active implementation of quality standards for specification, coding, testing and documentation as embodied in the standard software development life cycle
Ensuring the outputs generated by the software development team meets the requirements of the clients and produces a reliable, safe and stable system.
Managing a software development team to deliver high-quality application programs, including design, development and maintenance, monitor and appraise work performance and facilitate their ongoing professional development.
You’re an influential technology leader with substantial experience in software development and have worked on large, complex portfolios of work that have dealt with mission critical systems. You’re technically skilled and have worked with varied software development environment, including C++, UI, middleware and integration platforms.
You have also led the development of software products and understand the complexity of developing products and delivering for projects concurrently.
You’ll be motivated by challenges and working with new technology, and have the ability to build and sustain cohesive and effective multidisciplinary teams, maximising performance at an individual and team level through a transformational period.
The successful candidate will have a relevant tertiary qualification in Software Engineering or a related discipline coupled with significant current professional experience.
