Working with the Senior Director, Strategic Planning, the Senior Associate will help to assess the range of opportunities for Nearmap’s growth, assist the executive team in deciding which of these are key objectives, and build the strategic plan for those key objectives. You will also be responsible for monitoring Nearmap’s market and competitive landscape.


The ideal candidate will be looking to build on 3-5 years’ experience in strategy, consulting or investment banking and keen to make your first move to a commercial in-house environment.

Day to day, you will assist in the development of Nearmap’s mid and long-term new initiatives with a view to creating shareholder value. As Nearmap is expanding both its product set and its geographic reach, planning is required before each major new initiative to understand the value, risks and impact on Nearmap of that initiative. You will also assist in formulating and executing the detailed programs involved in the strategic planning process, to ensure efficient, timely and cost-effective outcomes.

What we are looking for...

  • 3-5 years’ experience in strategy, either at a consulting firm, in-house corporate function or investment banking
  • Experience in strategic planning, process development and execution
  • Experience in formulating, developing and implementing new strategies
  • Knowledge of the remote sensing / earth observation industry beneficial
  • Skills you will need; Financial Modelling, Strategic thinking, Business Acumen, Professional written and verbal communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Personal attributes you will possess; Self Starter – takes initiative and knows when to seek advice / input, Results Driven, Creative Thinker / Problem Solving / Analysis, Collaboration Skills, Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications, MBA or other post graduate qualifications an advantage

A typical day for you may look like this...

  • Providing in-house strategic consulting capability to formulate, develop and execute Nearmap’s strategic planning processes aimed at identifying and refining Nearmap’s mid and long-term growth initiatives. Coordinate with external resources used (as required)
  • Ensuring the Nearmap Core Values are used as the basis of all decision making
  • Building the visibility of the Strategy function at Nearmap and promote the strategic capability of the broader organisation
  • Establishing credibility through the organisation and with the Executive Team as an effective developer of solutions to business challenges
  • Understanding the broader geospatial content / analytics market, industry vertical customer needs, and other players / products in the market.
  • Central coordination of market data and key competitive players
  • Integrating insights into actionable intelligence to drive growth through technological, product, customer or strategic initiatives
  • Using data (internal and external) to help build the financial and strategic business case for new initiatives.
  • Build supporting financial models and presentation materials
  • Assisting in commercial, financial, competitive, strategic and risk aspects of new business initiatives. Will help develop planning processes and business plans for resulting initiatives as well as understand how the plan will be implemented within Nearmap
  • Where required, provide strategic capability to assess short term / immediate requirements, such as M&A / bid support, external market queries etc.
