Xero is incredibly user centric, which means design is at the heart of all our product development. The Product Design team is a vital part of Xero’s success and our product makes a meaningful difference in the lives and businesses of millions people around the world. We have some really awesome humans in our design practice, working across Xero’s products internationally.
Globally we are a team 140+ practitioners (and growing!), spanning across NZ, AU, UK, USA and Canada. Within the design function we have 5 main areas, Product design, Design Research, Design Operations, Accessibility and Service Design. We are all one team and as a result work cross functionally with our development and product teammates in order to create the most beautiful and enjoyable experiences for our customers.


Where does this role fit in?

The Digital Accessibility Analyst will report directly into our Head of Digital Accessibility Laila Coulton. The Xero Digital Accessibility team is a critical cross-business team, who enable Xero to design, develop and deliver inclusive products. Sitting within the amazing Xero Design team, Digital Accessibility is perfectly placed to ensure all design is inclusive and has all types of users in mind. Be are a brand new team, starting off as a team of 3 with plans to grow. About the role

Working alongside your accessibility team, you will be responsible for reviewing, redesigning and of course rolling out new processes and training. You will work towards our goal of embedding Accessibility into the definition of done at Xero. With an in-depth understanding on how to action and implement the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines you'll share your accessibility knowledge far and wide within the Xero organisation.


What does that look like day to day?

You’ll support and educate by providing accessibility recommendations to Product Owners, Product Designers, Front End Developers, Testers and Content writers.You’ll be hands on in setting up and guiding teams through accessibility audits from briefing through to re-test and full remediation. You will drive Digital Accessibility checks to determine compliance with the latest WCAG criteria across platforms and devices. Help us work smarter! - We will need you to recommend systems, services and tools that allow us to automate the testing of accessibility in our digital experiences so we can ensure accessibility at scale.

You will get to be hands on in the creation and maintenance of Xero’s internal accessibility policies, processes and standards as well as hands on internal training programs to help our teams to better incorporate accessibility into their work. The Digital Accessibility analyst will also be responsible for coordinating co-design activities with people with disabilities, including supporting inclusive research and usability testing practices. This means you will have heaps of opportunities to present both internally and externally as well as attend training and conferences to develop your skills even further!

What you'll need for this role

  • Proven digital accessibility experience in fast-moving, digital businesses
  • Strong understanding of the practical implementation of WCAG
  • Direct experience working within a team that is integrating inclusive design across their organisation
  • You'll be well versed in using human centred design methodologies
  • And of course you'll have heaps of experience using and testing with a variety of assistive technologies
  • Change Management and Business Process Improvement experience is also a big bonus!
