Transport for NSW is the lead agency of the NSW Transport cluster. Our role is to lead the development of a safe, efficient, integrated transport system that keeps people and goods moving, connects communities and shapes the future of our cities, centres and regions.

We are responsible for strategy, planning, policy, regulation, funding allocation and other non-service delivery functions for all modes of transport in NSW including road, rail, ferry, light rail, point to point, regional air, cycling and walking.
We focus on improving the customer experience and contract public and private operators to deliver customer-focused transport services on our behalf.

We also lead the procurement of transport infrastructure and oversee delivery through project delivery offices and industry delivery partners.

The Division

The Greater Sydney Division integrates transport modes including trains, metro and buses; critical infrastructure and services to support Sydney’s growing metropolitan population, projected to swell to over 12 million within the next 40 years.

The opportunity

We have a very unique opportunity for 2 Senior Transport Planners to join our Planning & Programs branch on a permanent full time basis working out of our Parramatta office. Based on geographical jurisdiction, each vacancy will report directly to a Director Transport Planning. These roles provide transport planning advice and expertise to support the NSW government’s vision and priorities and ensure alignment with Future Transport 2056 and 10 Year Blueprint outcomes. The role provides the opportunity to work across multi-disciplinary, matrixed teams delivering:

  • Short-term and medium term multi-modal transport planning for Greater Sydney
  • Place-based planning within a specific geographic area
  • Integrated land use, network & place planning

Successful applicants will also be involved in the following:

  • Provide evidence-based advice, research, analysis, recommendations and prepare planning documents and deliverables across transport strategies, plans, studies, and business cases, aligned to a specific geographic area, integrated network or major project.
  • Contribute to project planning, management and reporting to ensure the delivery of the planning projects are on time, on budget and good quality.
  • Collaborate with specialist teams within the matrix branch structure and across TfNSW divisions to ensure the best possible planning outcomes.

About you

You are an experienced professional who thrives in a fast paced, highly complex environment. A successful applicant will have proven ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful outcomes and strategic business objectives. Superior written and oral communication skills and proven experience of tactfully dealing with stakeholders at all levels, including sensitivity in dealing with community and political issues.

You will have the ability to think at the big picture, entertain wide-ranging possibilities in developing a vision for the future whilst incorporating strategic direction into day-to-day activities is an absolute essential. A solid experience in analysing and interpreting regulations, policy and guidance for ongoing organizational compliance and in response to specific inquiries posed by business partners are an essential. You would have detailed knowledge and experience in the operation of planning proposals and development applications with demonstrated ability to process, interpret and analyse data.

Ideally, you will hold relevant tertiary qualifications such as transport planning, urban planning, or engineering with significant experience related to the responsibilities of the role.

Salary and Benefits

The salary for this position is TfNSW Grade 8 ($118,085 - $132,176) per annum plus superannuation and leave loading.
