Would you like to be part of a public policy team focused on increasing awareness and adoption of Amazon Web Services (AWS) and the utility public cloud model amongst enterprises, the public sector and regulated industries in Australia and New Zealand? Do you have public policy and/or government affairs experience of technology and cybersecurity issues, and a desire to build your career in the field of public policy?

AWS is a leading provider of hyper-scale public cloud computing services, providing IT infrastructure offerings that deliver on-demand compute capacity, storage, content delivery, and database services. We are looking for a talented individual to join the ANZ Public Policy team. Reporting to the Head of ANZ Public Policy, this individual will work on a range of public policy, regulatory, and government affairs issues with a focus on Australia and cybersecurity regulation and related topics – including cloud security, critical infrastructure, and cybersecurity standards.

The successful candidate will be responsible for – among other things – gathering intelligence on developing legislative and regulatory policy initiatives and contributing to the development of appropriate AWS policy responses in ANZ. They will monitor political trends and engage at senior political and bureaucratic levels with the ability to influence approaches to public policy. The individual will be an outstanding communicator capable of articulating the views and policy positions of AWS. They will demonstrate the capacity to engage and relate to political figures as well as being an influential AWS representative on those industry associations and policy coalitions that are critical to advancing AWS’s public policy objectives. The candidate should be able to coordinate efforts with local and global AWS management and business teams to ensure alignment between core business priorities and policy goals and will become familiar with all aspects of AWS business, and interface directly with the business units in ANZ.

The successful candidate will also ideally have deep cybersecurity experience and will proactively build policy positions on cybersecurity and advance engagements with key policymakers, regulators and third-parties in Australia and New Zealand.
The successful candidate will be based in Australia (we are flexible about location within Australia and have offices in all mainland state capitals and Canberra) and will be a senior member of the AWS ANZ Public Policy team. They will:
  • Contribute to the development of public policy and government affairs priorities for AWS and lead advocacy with relevant ANZ Government officials and senior public servants based in Canberra and Wellington;
  • Develop and execute advocacy strategies related to cybersecurity legislation and policy across ANZ;
  • Work with internal stakeholders and experts to identify opportunities and risks arising from policy and regulatory developments;
  • Facilitate high-level meetings between AWS executives and key stakeholders, including senior government officials, regulators, industry associations and alliance partners to promote advocacy positions;
  • Proactively build relationships with cybersecurity agencies, regulatory bodies and cyber promotion agencies, as well as with sectoral regulators in highly-regulated industries such as healthcare and financial services, across ANZ;
  • Craft and contribute to policy submissions and engage in consultations with relevant regulators;
  • Contribute to advocacy efforts within AWS including coordinating and developing public policy collateral such as policy position papers and talking points; and
  • Drive strategic third party engagement through industry associations/coalitions, and leverage outside consultants when appropriate.

    The successful candidate will be a respected and experienced professional who is inquisitive, intellectually ambitious and enthusiastic about technology, enjoy working hard and being continually challenged, demonstrate sound judgment in ambiguous situations, and enjoy robust advocacy and policy strategy.
