Power Delivery Manager, Technical

The AWS Infrastructure Energy team in Sydney is looking for a technical power delivery manager. In this role, you’ll be responsible for delivering large scale critical HV/ MV power infrastructure projects for AWS data centres across the Asia Pacific region.

You’ll be managing multiple large scale power infrastructure projects across different geographies and evaluating opportunities to reduce energy capital and operating expense. You’ll drive change within the program, standardise engineering processes, and tools for delivery executions on APAC’s Grid delivery program.

You’ll leverage your experience delivering substation projects/programs from the design phase through to energisation, and your high-level technical understanding of critical substation projects, including cables and overhead lines. Your strong communication skills, and ability to manage stakeholders from diverse teams will ensure delivery timelines are achieved. You’ll report weekly on key project risks & issues at senior management, director and vice president level.


Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute grid delivery strategies that leverage capital projects to reduce long term energy costs.
  • Manage multiple Utilities, EPC and Owner's Engineers to deliver MV and HV power infrastructure.
  • Identify risks with delivering power infrastructure within a tight schedule and provide mitigation plan
  • Work as a single point ownership for the entire power infrastructure delivery process from project identification through energisation by working with utility companies, developers, and engineering and construction teams.
  • Proactively identify interface issues with internal stakeholders including Engineering, Security, Operations and Construction teams and help in early resolution
  • Provide technical support to Regional Energy Managers in Due Diligence of new sites across regions
  • Provide technical support to Regional Energy Managers in closing Power Infrastructure scope discussions with Co-location / Leased site service providers
  • Prepare specification for HV/LV substation in coordination with engineering and construction team , work through the tender process selecting general contractors, and coordinate the power delivery

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or other technical field
  • 10+ years of experience in utility/energy industry in a commercial/business development or technical role

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Experience planning, engineering, developing or constructing substations or other 33kV or greater energy infrastructure
  • Experience evaluating and implementing innovative infrastructure and operational strategies within the energy sector, such as energy storage, demand response, fuel cells, etc
  • Experience working directly with public utility commissions and other energy regulators
  • Experience with IT infrastructure, data centres and cloud services
  • Experience developing and delivering Medium Voltage and High Voltage electric infrastructure projects in a planning or project management role
• Experience reviewing energy projects and contracts with utilities, contractors and internal stakeholders including Engineering, Construction, Security, Operations etc
