Transport for NSW is the lead agency of the NSW Transport cluster. Our role is to lead the development of a safe, efficient, integrated transport system that keeps people and goods moving, connects communities and shapes the future of our cities, centres and regions.

We are responsible for strategy, planning, policy, regulation, funding allocation and other non-service delivery functions for all modes of transport in NSW including road, rail, ferry, light rail, point to point, regional air, cycling and walking.
We focus on improving the customer experience and contract public and private operators to deliver customer-focused transport services on our behalf.

We also lead the procurement of transport infrastructure and oversee delivery through project delivery offices and industry delivery partners.

The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Urban Design Lead to join our Customer Strategy and Technology Division in the Place and Urban Design team within the Customer Strategy and Experience branch. The Place and Urban Design team are the champions of high quality public transport architecture and urban design within Transport for NSW. This team provides architectural and urban design expertise and advice to project teams driving design excellence on transport projects by collaboration, advocacy and thought leadership. As customers are at the centre of everything we do at Transport, this role advocates for the customer ensuring project designs are place-based and people-focused.

What you will be involved in

You will work on high quality architectural and urban design outcomes for NSW-wide infrastructure projects such as those being delivered as part of the Transport Access Program (TAP), the commuter car park program and More Trains More Services. TAP aims to provide a better experience for public transport customers by delivering accessible, modern integrated transport infrastructure. This includes station upgrades, ferry wharf upgrades and commuter car parks. Over the next ten years the More Trains, More Services program will roll out world class technology to transform the rail network and provide customers with more reliable, high capacity turn up and go services.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to make your mark on iconic infrastructure projects, which are shaping future travel for the community of NSW.

About You

You are an innovative thinker with a detailed design eye and have the ability to synthesise project desirables and customer needs to create great places. You are a trusted advisor and an advocate for good design in the built environment. You are collaborative, agile, self-starter who is used to meeting tight deadlines while ensuring quality outcomes. Additionally, you will possess expert stakeholder management and communication skills.

Tertiary qualifications in Urban Design, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or relevant discipline is a requirement, along with demonstrated experience in architectural and/or landscape architecture practice. Architectural registration is an advantage but not mandatory.

Previous design and construction experience with infrastructure projects, integrated transport infrastructure, or public buildings is essential. Additionally, an understanding of requirements/processes for heritage sites & access for mobility impaired people would be advantageous.

Please note that occasional travel project sites will be required.

Salary and Benefits

The salary for this position is Transport Service Grade 9 ($135,898 - $152,204) per annum plus superannuation and leave loading.
