Principal Technical Program Manager - Global National Security & Defense

The National Security industry is in the midst of unprecedented transformation through changing business models, increasing global threats, and tactical information sharing. Leaders are looking to the cloud to power the transformation of products and mission. AWS is looking for a Technical Program Manager to function as the technology enabler to make it easier for customers to start their transformational journey. We are looking for a unique candidate that has a mix of credentials in the National Security segment and strong technical solution experience. Candidate must have success working directly with National Security executives around the world to drive mission outcomes.

Your responsibilities will include developing a portfolio of repeatable technical solutions – all with outcomes focused on helping National Security customers (both Intelligence and Defence) accelerate mission capabilities through AWS solutions. This effort closes an important gap in connecting the silos of National Security across the globe. Supported by a team of AWS account managers, senior engineers and corporate teams you will work with executive customers to develop solutions that will transform the Global National Security industry.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a key member of the International Team to drive overall AWS market and service enablement strategy for the National Security industry.
  • Work closely with National Security executives and other senior customers to develop solutions/new capabilities to help customers on their digital transformation journey.
  • Work closely with members of AWS National Security sales teams to engage customers and leverage the technical solutions that are developed.
  • Market the solutions to customers in collaboration with key internal stakeholder (e.g. sales teams, service teams, marketing, partner team, legal, support, etc.).
  • Define and size opportunities across the National Security customer space, identify and engage key customers, and identify and engage key partners including ISVs and system integrators.
  • Support business development pipeline by engaging with key prospects and partners.
  • Understand the technical requirements of our customers and work closely with the internal development teams to guide the direction of our product offerings for the National Security industry.
  • Present business reviews to the senior management team regarding progress and roadblocks to expanding our reach in the industry.
  • Handle a high volume of engagements and interactions in the fast pace of the cloud computing market.


  • 7+ years of International Intelligence Community and/or Department of Defense domain knowledge including direct customer interface, customer systems, applications and technology.
  • Technical Program Management experience in taking concepts through to successful technical delivery.
  • Broad knowledge of technology solutions to include: data center / networking / database systems / fundamentals of cloud computing and virtualization / storage systems / Analytics / emerging paradigms like IoT, Machine Learning, etc.
  • Bachelor’s degree required


  • Leadership skills are key, with proven verbal and written communications skills with demonstrated ability to work effectively across internal and external organizations, and lead through influence.
  • Some technical consulting background, experience working with National Security and Defense industry customers at the CxO/VP level.
  • Analytical and data-driven, and ability to demonstrate balanced planning and execution skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and analytically about business, product, and technical challenges, with the ability to build and convey compelling value propositions, and work cross-organizationally to build consensus.
  • Good understanding of legacy and emerging technologies in the National Security and Department of Defense industry.
  • Experience with AWS products and services.
  • Relationships and network in the industry.
  • Advanced degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or related field is preferred.
