Job Description

The Metallurgical Coal (MetCoal) Analytics Centre (MAC), is a newly formed centralised hub which will support our operations by providing insights backed by operational, engineering and data science experts. As the largest underground coal miner in Australia, we are uniquely positioned to leverage our own data and technology to transform the way we analyse data to drive safer operations, better decisions and achieve mining excellence.

Reporting to our MAC Manager, this newly created position will see you lead in the optimisation of current Strata and Geotechnical practices and identify potential step change improvement opportunities across MetCoal. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary skilled team providing solutions to operational challenges via the use of data and rapid development. Within your area of subject matter expertise of Geotechnical Engineering, , you will utilise your experience to provide underground coal mining operations with insights and value gained from the integration of data from a variety of geological, geophysical, geotechnical and operational sources.

Partnering with Data Scientists, Engineers and other technical teams, you will apply your expertise to drive quantifiable improvements in mining operations via the use of data. As an influential and inspiring leader, you are continually assessing how we can apply the latest digital technologies in innovative ways to constantly improve the operations and create a step change into the next generation of a digital mine.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in establishing and/or running Continuous Improvement Programs / Transformation / Transitions with customers or internal business units
  • Ability to use strong business acumen to identify how data and analytics can be used to drive high value outcomes
  • Geotechnical Engineering experience (preferably Coal)
  • Ability to balance delivering value now, against the long term high value items
  • Experience in advising site-based stakeholders based on data trends, and communicating the insights generated by the data analytics platform.
  • An understanding and /or experience within the coal mining industry
  • Provide analytical and investigative forensics to enable step change in the functional area of responsibility.
  • Establishment root cause of failure with recommendations to prevent reoccurrence to be done in conjunction with the requirement by the sites.
  • Lead case studies and assist in fault and root cause analysis.
  • Undergraduate qualification (Bachelor/Honours degree or equivalent) in Geotechnical Engineering (or relevant discipline).
