This role works on a continuous 8 on 6 off roster, working back to back with another peer. The successful candidate will have options to choose from company paid FIFO or DIDO for this role, or can also select to live residentially in the nearby town of Dysart. Reporting to the Superintendent Planning, as the Lead Mining Engineer – Draglines and Drill & Blastyou will be leading the team of Draglines and Drill & Blastengineers to provide timely and accurate designs, plans and schedules to enable the 5 draglines and significant drill and blast fleet at Peak Downs Mine to deliver planned production volumes. In this role you will be responsible for providing planning support for the +1 week to 12 week time frame. Use your already solid mine planning skills and operational experience in this busy and challenging role to develop effective working relationships with the operational and medium-term planning teams, in order to ensure the efficient execution of short-term plans and schedules.
This is a great opportunity to hone your mine planning and leadership skills as well as further develop a deep understanding of the key value drivers of a large complex open cut mining operation. You will gain exposure to a variety of stripping operations and mine geology whilst seeing the results of your work being implemented. You will also have access to a supportive, inclusive and results-oriented leadership team. Your responsibilities
- Lead and direct the work for the Draglines and Drill & Blastplanning team to ensure that designs, plans and schedules are in place enabling operations to achieve forecast production
- Coach, develop and mentor team members in best practice Draglines and Drill & Blastplanning
- Build relationships with and obtain buy in from the operations teams for plans, schedules and designs
- Ensure that productivity is maximised buy leveraging the key value drivers of coal uncovery, minimising re-handle and material fragmentation.
- Identify interactions and key enabling activities and put plans in place to manage these
- Build relationships and work closely with other mine planning sub functions (Prestrip, Coal Quality, Geology, Survey and medium term planning)
- Continue to refine and embed the Draglines and Drill & Blast Planning standards and processes;
- Communicate designs and schedules to Operations;
- Identify and implement Planning improvement initiatives.
As the successful candidate, you will have a tertiary education in Engineering and previous experience working at a large Coal Mining operation, particularly planning for Draglines and Drill & Blast fleets.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills are a must, allowing you to build relationships across departments and to communicate at all levels. A strong working knowledge of Vulcan, XACT, and the Microsoft Office suite is essential and previous exposure to Blast Logic software will be advantageous.
