You’ll work within the Enterprise Technology Architecture team to define Xero’s architecture strategy and long-term direction within our portfolio. You’ll build strong relationships with key stakeholders such as the Development Manager, Product Manager and Lead Engineers, to ensure a shared understanding of the business requirements while championing the non-functionals, architecture guidelines and strategies. Drawing on your own experiences and based on good engineering practices, you’ll guide and influence the development teams to design, build and deliver high-quality features quickly, with confidence and accuracy, balancing long-term direction with current needs. You’ll work with the development teams to identify technical debt and related issues for prioritisation and resolution. With the Product Manager, you’ll define and prioritise the technical roadmap within the product backlog. You’ll facilitate and lead discussions to ensure we have the right tools available for the job. You’ll use your wealth of experience and knowledge to provide training, coaching and mentoring where needed
Experience in designing service-oriented architecture solutions. Good understanding and experience measuring and designing for non-functionals, like reliability, availability, security, maintainability, performance and scalability. Familiarity with multiple software development methodologies and styles. Good understanding of systems design, ideally with Software as a Service Products. Software development skills, ideally C# or other Object Oriented Programming languages. Relational databases and knowledge of NoSQL databases. Good understanding of AWS. Data and Statistical Analysis skills. Exposure to the Subscription and Billing systems or Invoicing space will also be an advantage. Excellent communication skills and the ability to simplify and articulate highly technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders. Leadership ability to create, articulate, mentor and advocate the vision and technical and semantic direction for a product and systems architecture.

The Subscription & Billing domain is made up of three pillars:
Revenue: for invoicing and payments
Experience: for subscription management, tailored to external subscribers and the internal customer support team.
Growth: for entering new markets, with localised experiences and expanding existing markets with diversified products.
The three pillars deliver business outcomes via strong customer relationships. Alongside the exciting work above, the Subscription & Billing domain are working on a multi-year programme to replace the current billing system with a more modern and scalable solution to better serve our expanding customer base and allow for more flexible and sophisticated billing scenarios. The team uses the latest stack (.NET Core, Microservices, Containers, AWS).
What’s the role?
As the Solution Architect in S&B, you’ll contribute to the long term technical vision of Xero and assist our teams to bring that vision to life. Your guidance will give teams clarity of direction, and confidence to deliver high-quality products. You’ll bridge between worlds - building and maintaining relationships with product stakeholders, engineering teams, operations and leadership, enabling the business to optimise for global scale.
You'll improve the cohesion of Xero’s systems – people, technologies and processes. Through sound architecture practices, you’ll balance long-term evolvability and scalability with current needs. You’ll help to integrate the pieces into a #beautiful whole, orchestrating our internal systems and third party software solutions to deliver great customer outcomes.
