The Strategic Advisor – Public Sector operates within the public sector team for Amazon Web Services (AWS) across Australia and New Zealand. This person will work across the Victoria and Tasmania governments and, where relevant, public sector corporations, education institutions, non-profits and public funded healthcare service providers.

Our team's primary objective is to accelerate government’s execution of its mission objectives and improve citizen experiences of government services using AWS. We take a medium to long term view of government priorities focusing on the central agencies and the government’s stated policy objectives. We do this by understanding and analyzing government policy and strategy, linking it to government programs and funding sources, and identifying priority candidates for disruption and transformation.

In this role you will gather information on government priorities, analyze these and identify opportunities for AWS to help the government accelerate their mission delivery. You will build influential relationships within senior government to support government outcomes, validate strategy and to position AWS as the preferred execution partner for initiatives. You will act as the voice of government back into AWS and identify specific needs related to transformation, such as skills development and industry collaboration, and align internal teams to government outcomes.

The ideal candidate will have experience in the public sector to provide credibility and empathy with sector challenges, preferably with exposure to digital transformation. They will have existing relationships that they can leverage to understand public sector perspectives and priorities. They will be a great communicator, a proven collaborator across internal and external stakeholders, and a high business judgement individual.

This position will
  • Act as a trusted advisor and thought leader in the development of the relevant public sector transformation and innovation strategy
  • Engage with a broad range of external stakeholders to understand and analyze requirements and complex scenarios, partnering with broader internal teams to create innovative programs best placed to address customer needs
  • Identify, prioritize and develop opportunities for local, state and state-to-federal initiatives with Amazon Web Services and AWS Partners
  • Analyze current government policies, whitepapers, legislation and other relevant information to improve AWS understanding of the government’s operational and strategic objectives, to improve positioning of AWS responses to customer requirements
  • Develop business cases in support of local, state and federal strategic and operational initiatives where relevant
  • Identify and develop opportunities for public and commercial collaboration to leverage all possible funding vehicles for opportunity advancement


  • 12+ years experience working with public sector government departments with existing contacts in Voctorian government
  • Strong analytical and presentation skills and the ability to articulate complex concepts (technical and non-technical) to cross-functional audiences
  • Proven experience in developing compelling value propositions and strategic business cases in public sector contexts
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain senior (Ministerial and SES level) business relationships within government
  • Tertiary qualification in Business, Computing, Technology or Finance areas
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills


  • Advanced degree or equivalent experience
  • Domain experience in a government cluster e.g., Defence, Health, Justice, Police, Transport, Central Agencies etc.
  • Strategic planner with the ability to articulate down to operational delivery of concepts
  • Experience with digital transformation in government
