The Growth Strategic Business Development Manager operates within the public sector team for Amazon Web Services (AWS) across Australia and New Zealand. This person works with central government ministries for all local, state and federal government matters; and where relevant public sector corporations, education institutions, non-profits and public funded healthcare service providers.

Our goal is to work with state and federal government organisations, creating long term strategic relationships and enable public sector transformation through cloud innovation, specifically enable the delivery of stated national priorities and strategic objectives.
In this role you will identify, prioritise and describe the pursuit of local, state and federal based strategic opportunities and influence a broad group of internal stakeholders to provide solutions best placed to win strategic opportunities. The person occupying this position must be capable of developing partnerships with senior customers and influence stakeholders to shape long term plans in transformation through adoption of cloud innovation. The ideal candidate will have customer facing business development experience, be a proven collaborator across internal and external stakeholders, and be a high business judgement individual.

This position will
  • Act as a trusted advisor and thought leader in the development of the relevant public sector transformation and innovation strategy
  • Engage with a broad range of external stakeholders to understand and analyze requirements and complex scenarios, partnering with broader internal teams to create innovative programs best placed to address customer needs
  • Identify, prioritise and develop opportunities for local, state and state-to-federal initiatives with Amazon Web Services and AWS Partners
  • Analyse current government policies, whitepapers, legislation and other relevant information to improve AWS understanding of the government’s operational and strategic objectives for improved positioning of AWS responses to customer requirements
  • Develop supporting business cases for support of local, state and federal strategic and operational pursuits where relevant
  • Identify and develop opportunities for public and commercial collaboration to leverage all possible funding vehicles for opportunity advancement


  • 12+ years in customer facing business development, or service delivery roles with existing contacts in government
  • Strong analytical and presentation skills and the ability to articulate complex concepts (technical and non technical) to cross-functional audiences
  • Proven experience in developing compelling value propositions and strategic business cases in public sector contexts
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain senior (C-Suite level) business relationships within government
  • Tertiary qualification in Business, Computing, Technology or Finance areas


  • Advanced degree or equivalent experience
  • Extensive experience in working with public sector government departments
  • Domain experience in a government cluster e.g. Defence, Health, Justice, Police, Transport, Central Agencies etc.
  • Strategic planner with the ability to articulate down to operational delivery of concepts
  • Client experience and the ability to have peer-to-peer engagements with CxOs
  • Knowledge of AWS products and services
