As one of Australia’s largest underground mines and most complex minerals processing operations, Olympic Dam is globally unique in that we produce Copper, Uranium, Gold and Silver. Oak Dam is an exciting exploration discovery located 65km south east of Olympic Dam with the potential to significantly contribute to the long-term growth strategy for the Asset. About the role
With the continued success of our Oak Dam exploration discovery through 2020, the project has transferred to the Minerals Australia Planning & Technical team as an advanced exploration project to undertake the next phase directional drilling program, technically evaluate resource characteristics and assess development pathways. Accordingly we are seeking a highly motivated Superintendent Geology to join our team reporting to the Manager Oak Dam, Olympic Dam. This is an outstanding oppurtunity to lead the exploration strategy and execution for the next phase advanced exploration and resource definition program for an exciting South Australian mining prospect. Based in our award winning Adelaide office, the position offers flexible conditions and a balance of time on the Oak Dam Explration Licence and Olympic Dam site providing supervision and field leadership. This diverse range of work will see you positiively influence business portfolio decisions.
To excel in this role you will require:
- Demonstrated knowledge of Iron-Oxide-Copper-Gold mineral systems
- A track record of leading advanced greenfield exploration programs with deep directional core drilling experience
- JORC documentation and reporting experience covering Exploration Results, and geological inputs to Mineral Resources through to Ore Reserves
- Experience with geological modelling software (ie Leapfrog)
- Proficient stakeholder management and project management capabilities.
Core responsibilities of the role include (but are not limited to):
- Health, Safety and Environment leadership
- Leading the Phase 4 advanced exploration strategy and diamond drilling program
- Drilling Services contractor technical supervision and collaboration to ensure the objectives of the drilling program are achieved
- Definition, coordination and delivery of technical data capture to support resource engineering evaluations including geotechnical, geo metallurgical and hydrogeological
- Geological model development, resource range analysis and review with internal and external reviewers.
You will have tertiary qualifications in Geology, Earth Sciences or a related science field ideally with 10+ years’ experience in minerals exploration and resource development projects. A focus on value based decision making, project management skills, strong leadership capability and exposure to approvals processes are also desirable.
Your superior stakeholder engagement will foster collaborative working relationships across our Geoscience & Resource Engineering, Studies & Access, HSE and operational teams. You will have knowledge to apply critical thinking to the development and the ability to communicate effectively across disciplines and organisational levels to create buy-in and influence outcomes. You will have demonstrated leadership capability, and the strong interpersonal skills to engage and listen to the diverse range of employees and stakeholders within our business.
