Transport for NSW is the lead agency of the NSW Transport cluster. Our role is to lead the development of a safe, efficient, integrated transport system that keeps people and goods moving, connects communities and shapes the future of our cities, centres and regions.

We are responsible for strategy, planning, policy, regulation, funding allocation and other non-service delivery functions for all modes of transport in NSW including road, rail, ferry, light rail, point to point, regional air, cycling and walking.
We focus on improving the customer experience and contract public and private operators to deliver customer-focused transport services on our behalf.

We also lead the procurement of transport infrastructure and oversee delivery through project delivery offices and industry delivery partners.

The opportunity

The purpose of the role is to aid in the delivery of advancing the cluster’s analytics and data science platforms. The role has primary ownership of the data pipeline which integrates various data sources to produce analysis, reporting, and audience research.

You will

  • Provide managerial and technical oversight of data solutions to meet business, technical and user requirements, including building modern data pipelines that meet functional / non-functional business requirements and provide end to end data solutions.
  • Lead and participate in proofs-of-concept on platform innovation, and effectively transition and scale those concepts into production with a focus on delivering business value.
  • Contribute to ongoing technical and business outcomes of the cloud data platform including platform enhancements, capacity management, performance monitoring, troubleshooting and resolution of technical issues.
  • Drive the uplift in design by automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery and redesigning virtualised infrastructure for greater scalability and business value.
  • Have technical ownership for data and data pipelines to ensure compliance with data standards, architectural standards, and the achievement of business requirements.
  • Possess strong collaboration skills to partner with source system owners and end-state data consumers

About You

You’re a collaborative and talented leader of people with a strong background in data engineering. You demonstrate stakeholder engagement expertise, decisiveness, and the drive to get things done. Engaging and energetic, you excel in communication and presentation and have proven experience in leading teams in a complex customer centric environment.

Essential requirements

  • Experience in configuration and coordination of data pipelines across projects with a AWS cloud first approach but additionally using tooling such as Talend.
  • Ability to work with tools such as ERWIN and other data modelling and profiling tools, with previous experience working on large data engineering and migration programmes.
  • Previous experience working with data, data environments, databases and large data sets.
  • A strong background in coding with possible experience with SQL, Python, C# and Java.
  • Tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in a relevant field.

Salary and Benefits
