Transport for NSW is the lead agency of the NSW Transport cluster. Our role is to lead the development of a safe, efficient, integrated transport system that keeps people and goods moving, connects communities and shapes the future of our cities, centres and regions.

We are responsible for strategy, planning, policy, regulation, funding allocation and other non-service delivery functions for all modes of transport in NSW including road, rail, ferry, light rail, point to point, regional air, cycling and walking.
We focus on improving the customer experience and contract public and private operators to deliver customer-focused transport services on our behalf.

We also lead the procurement of transport infrastructure and oversee delivery through project delivery offices and industry delivery partners.

About the team

The Strategic Transport Planning team within Transport leads the development of long-term, multi-modal strategies, plans and policies for places and networks across NSW. We leverage data and insights, implement new technologies, drive innovation and build partnerships to provide customer and community centred visions, strategies and plans, including a pipeline of future initiatives.

The opportunity

The Executive Director Planning for Places will provide leadership for the strategic transport planning of places across NSW, including Greater Sydney, Outer Metropolitan and Regional NSW. The role applies Future Transport principles to deliver integrated transport and land use planning, including regional, city and place plans for areas of change across NSW.

You will:

  • Lead and implement the development of place-based and outcomes-based strategic transport plans, co-designed with land use plans, for NSW
  • Embed a collaborative culture across the Transport Cluster enabling co-design of strategic place plans, and involving early engagement with stakeholders from the community, operators, land use and infrastructure agencies
  • Establish matrix-style flexible working to both allow for place-based engagement, and for capabilities to be applied where needed most
  • Manage and lead a large team of transport and land use planners, and embed in their work a technology and safety culture

About you

You demonstrate expertise in high quality strategic corporate, business and operations planning, and in directing multi-disciplinary and geographically dispersed teams to deliver innovative, customer centred outcomes. An engaging communicator and highly collaborative senior leader, you excel in bringing everyone to the table to create a shared vision for future palnning.

You are skilled in providing government with strategic advice on investment priorities including integrated, outcomes-based business cases for city and state shaping initiatives.

You put people at the centre of every decision you make, and draw satisfaction from the knowledge that you’re making a real difference working on services that connect people and communities in NSW.
