Transport for NSW is the lead agency of the NSW Transport cluster. Our role is to lead the development of a safe, efficient, integrated transport system that keeps people and goods moving, connects communities and shapes the future of our cities, centres and regions.

We are responsible for strategy, planning, policy, regulation, funding allocation and other non-service delivery functions for all modes of transport in NSW including road, rail, ferry, light rail, point to point, regional air, cycling and walking.
We focus on improving the customer experience and contract public and private operators to deliver customer-focused transport services on our behalf.

We also lead the procurement of transport infrastructure and oversee delivery through project delivery offices and industry delivery partners.

About the team

Greater Sydney Finance & Commercial manage the finances, investments, performance evaluation and program analysis for Greater Sydney. Greater Sydney Finance & Commercial work collaboratively across the client branches providing investment governance and assurance advice, strategic planning, performance analysis and financial management to ensure that all projects and services are delivered through an affordable and sustainable way.

The opportunity

Right now, we have a key leadership opportunity for a Director Strategy Planning & Performance to join us in Finance and Commercial team to lead the development and ongoing review of strategic business plans, project and service plans and performance to ensuring clear priorities for plans, programs, services and risk for the Division.

Reporting to the Executive Director, Finance and Commercial this role is pivotal for directing and overseeing the strategic planning, performance, and risk management activities and delivering commercially astute investments strategic and investment and decisions.

Key accountabilities of the role include:


  • Lead the development of business, service and asset strategy, plan, and performance plan for the division, ensuring alignment with the organisation’s strategic goals and providing clear direction to the business.
  • Provide strategic advice and leadership regarding the risks associated with business and corporate plans.
  • Lead the engagement with stakeholders, to identify and review new concepts and opportunities, and incorporate these into the overall strategy, plan and performance management.
  • Provide the core decision support capability around inflight capital and operating programs delivering high-level strategic advice across both Planning and Programs and Community and Place branches.
  • Pro-actively manage the divisions election commitment portfolio integrating strategic advice across multiple decisions to aid the cluster’s delivery.

About you

You’re a tertiary qualified and seasoned leader that has proven and extensive knowledge of management, analysis of sustainability and optimisation of a division strategies, planning and performance enhancements.

You’ll be an expert in the delivering high level strategic plans, evaluating proposals and business cases with the ability to assess strategic requirements and identify new opportunities.

Leading by example, your extensive knowledge, experience and ability to conduct complex research, data analytics, portfolio management, investment administration and governance will ensure your success in this role.

You operate in a highly collaborative way, offering innovative solutions, helping leaders to solve complex problems. You are highly analytical and feel comfortable combining financial and non-financial, quantitative and qualitative information in order to identify opportunities and risks and guide ambiguous strategic choices.
