Transport for NSW is the lead agency of the NSW Transport cluster. Our role is to lead the development of a safe, efficient, integrated transport system that keeps people and goods moving, connects communities and shapes the future of our cities, centres and regions.

We are responsible for strategy, planning, policy, regulation, funding allocation and other non-service delivery functions for all modes of transport in NSW including road, rail, ferry, light rail, point to point, regional air, cycling and walking.
We focus on improving the customer experience and contract public and private operators to deliver customer-focused transport services on our behalf.

We also lead the procurement of transport infrastructure and oversee delivery through project delivery offices and industry delivery partners.

The Division

The Regional and Outer Metropolitan (ROM) division is focused on understanding the particular needs of regional communities across NSW and delivering customer-centred integrated transport services and infrastructure.

The opportunity
Reporting to the Executive Director Networks and Assets, the Director Regional Strategic Contracts is a strategic, tactical and a critical thinker providing transformational leadership, strategic vision to manage and deliver operations and maintenance services across the country rail network. You will lead the delivery of Transport outcomes across a diverse rural rail network and the implementation and operation of Intercity and Regional trainsets. You will drive the development, implementation and maintenance of contract and performance reporting framework, for use in managing the contracts throughout the lifecycle, which provides asset and performance data to inform strategic decision making.

About you

In order to be successful in the role, you will be a strategic thinker with a passion for problem solving and proven expertise for pragmatic execution. You will foster an environment across the organization that encourages new and exciting solution ideas, challenging assumptions, encouraging ‘outside the box’ thinking and encouraging experimentation with new ideas and possibilities.

You will have an extensive knowledge of rail network operations and maintenance with a demonstrated experience in delivering high level strategic plans, proposals, and business cases with the ability to assess strategic requirements and identify new opportunities. With a high level leadership capability, you will possess experience in developing, implementing, and managing high value contracts, from end to end, including resolving contract disputes and auditing performance.
