What we’re looking for?
Based in our Head Office in Mulgrave, Melbourne an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Homewares Designer to join our Design team on a 12 month Maternity Leave contract This successful portfolio focusing around Home product for Kitchen, Dining and Living will see you quickly become part of a highly regarded successful team, so we are seeking a well-qualified, trend focused candidate who is capable of jumping in and hitting the ground running in this fast paced environment.
To be successful in this role you need to have had experience in these 3 areas:
As a home wares designer , you will be responsible for designing commercial, on trend home products including tableware, glassware and table accessories as well as bathroom accessories and storage that will excite our discerning trend savvy customers, from trend concept to sign off.
Essential to your design repertoire will be your strong understanding of product, materials, shapes, details, print, pattern and colour and your ability to complete finished artwork and make amendments.
TREND AWARENESS and RANGE BUILDING
The role has a strong trend component and given we are a Design led model, your knowledge and opinions will be valued! You will use your expertise to collaborate on trend forecasting key items, details, shapes and will have strong ranging skills and be capable of pulling together a cohesive, commercial range.
You will bring to the role a strong understanding of range architecture, entry/exit prices, cost prices, profit margins, volume and how to drive category growth and will possess commercial handwriting that fits in with Kmart’s everyday day low price (EDLP) strategy.
Collaboration is key! Working closely with the Buyer, part of your role will include account management which will see you influencing situations and outcomes. You will require strong stakeholder management skills coupled with the ability to manage up and down and will have prior experience partnering with a Buyer. Teamwork is a given as you work in partnership with various departments across the business including our Asia Sourcing team.
Your success in this role will be measured by your ability to ensure speed to market, understanding of market trends and product differentiation from competitors. You will have already made a strong impact in previous roles and your sound background in home product design will be integral to your success. You will have a structured approach, be incredibly well organised with strong time management skills, deadline driven and process orientated.
