Data Engineer

As a start-up business inside Australia's largest liquor retailer, EndeavourX aims to bring the best of Endeavour Drinks to our customers, powered by our team, technology and data. To achieve our customer 1st strategy, we have combined the Digital & eCommerce businesses for Dan Murphy’s and BWS to transform the customer experience under one brand - EndeavourX.

EndeavourX Hub is based 5 minutes walk from Central station with spaces for different activities such as collaboration, brainstorming or just chilling out playing ping pong. At EndeavourX, we also believe in flexible working, and our teams also have the option to work from home.

In this role you will:

  • Work with the business to source data into data lake azure.
  • Develop databricks coding in python and pyspark.
  • Merge and transfer Azure platform to GCP using big query.
  • Design, build and mature a new platform, moving towards tool oriented and SQL.
  • Source data, transform it, load it GCP - SQL and Big query.
  • Design, construct, install, test and maintain scalable solutions.
  • Transition datasets from legacy products and external data sources to our Google Cloud Platform.
  • Develop data-set processes for data modeling, mining and production.
  • Develop code using Software Engineering principles and best practices.
  • Ensure systems meet business requirements and enterprise practices.
  • Overseeing implementation in the team of new technologies and software engineering tools.
  • Incorporate security, compliance and reliability in data processes and structures.


As our successful candidate you will be embedded in Agile cross functional teams and will be excited to be a part of the transformation journey we are currently on. Have proven experience in a similar role where you have worked across data migration, transformation & integration being hands on working with Cloud technologies. You are an expert with SQL, Python and PySpark along with your passion for finding solutions to complex analytical problems. Demonstrated ability in ensuring end-to-end solution designs meet the needs of the client, provide for a quality technical solution, and comply with architectural directions and enterprise standards. Along with the ability to work collaboratively with your squad and other IT teams across the group are essential.

Key tools utilised are:

  • Cloud platforms, preferably Azure (Databricks) or Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery, Cloud Composer or Apache Airflow / DBT / Fivetrans)
  • Strong SQL and a variety of languages and tools (e.g. scripting languages such Python, Google AppScripts) to marry systems together
  • Collation of structured and unstructured data sources across a variety of platforms
  • Devops and CI/CD, code versioning and Azure devops.


Nice to have:

  • Experience Azure Devops
  • Experience with Hive and Snowflake
  • Experience in technical operations working with Cloud technologies (GCP, Azure).
  • Understanding of Agile and Scrum methodology.
