Data Center Operations develops and maintains Amazon computing environments in a secure, scalable, and cost-effective manner.

Amazon is a fast paced technology company and a leader in the world of Data Centers. We are currently expanding our infrastructure management team and are looking for proven technology mangers with experience in people management, strong technical understanding and the drive and vision to take Amazon Data Center Operations to the next level.

The company's infrastructure consists of various custom built and off-the-shelf applications operating on a variety of platforms. The successful candidate will have experience managing people and managers, creating, tracking and controlling budgets, devising strategies, mentoring people in all levels, sponsoring projects and proposing technical hardware solutions.

This person will be operationally responsible for the entire cluster of Data Centers in Melbourne. Some high-level responsibilities include:

  • Managing and developing teams of technicians and managers, providing both technical and leadership expertise and ensuring highest levels of performance.
  • Maintaining existing co-located and in-house Data Centers
  • Helping build and bring online new Data halls and Data Centers
  • Constantly improving all our processes and procedures.
  • Assisting & managing relationships with external vendors & contractors
  • Ensuring we adhere to and exceed local Health & Safety standards in all our Data Centers
  • Creating and maintaining metrics on all aspects of our Data Centers and utilising those metrics to drive positive changes
  • Assisting in implementing service methodologies including incident management, problem management, change management
  • Focus on large events and address resolutions accordingly
  • Mange and deliver cluster wide projects
  • Recommend, document, and oversee policies and procedures to meet industry best practice and to meet required SLAs
  • Ensure daily operation task prioritization across the cluster
  • Play a key role as a leader in hiring and growing the team talents across the cluster
  • Lead weekly meetings with the DC Site leads/managers


  • 10+ years of relevant technology/engineering experience managing large scale services
  • At least 5 years building strong, successful technical teams in a similar culture
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Proven track record of success in delivering complex projects
  • Prior ownership of the operation of a mission-critical team and/or product
  • Knowledge of Linux/UNIX systems administration and strong troubleshooting skills in Servers/Storage and Networks
  • In-depth knowledge of compute and network hardware architectures
  • Managed a 24x7 operations team, organizational and planning skills
  • Highly driven, self-managed individual who demonstrates initiative and proactively seeks solutions to problems
  • Well developed problem analysis and critical thinking experience.
  • Being able to understand the high level impact and detailed requirements is a must


  • Networking experience, hands on OSPF/BGP
  • Technical writing experience
  • An engineering degree or equivalent
• Shell programming knowledge and hands on experience
