The Opportunity

Due to strong growth within our Works Delivery division, an exciting opportunity exists to join our team as a Substation Secondary Systems Technician in Orange, NSW.

The main responsibilities of this role is to provide practical and technical expertise in substation electrical work including fault finding, repairs, maintenance, installation, testing and commissioning of assets within TransGrid’s and our customers Substations and facilities.

You will develop capabilities to be a subject matter expert for these systems and will gain skills to be able to lead a team of technicians – providing mentoring and training to other staff.

Key Accountabilities

Maintenance, installation, testing and commissioning activities involving Secondary Systems at substation assets. These include; pilot systems, protection circuits, metering circuits, auxiliary control systems.

Providing high quality technical and customer service to internal and external customers.

With experience, you will provide leadership to work teams in the field; ensuring that work is completed in accordance with TransGrids safety, environmental and quality requirements.

Provide standby support for emergency incidents, including loss of supply.

About You

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • A Certificate III in Electrotechnology or equivalent Electrical Trades Course Certificate
  • A current Australian Driver’s License
  • A solid understanding of Substation Secondary Systems – protection, metering and control
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to work both autonomously and in a team environment
  • Advanced understanding of diagnostic testing techniques for secondary systems apparatus
  • Authorisation or be willing and capable to obtain authorisation for High Voltage Switching
  • Advanced ability to interpret schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Good oral and written presentation skills
  • Extensive electrical trade experience
