About you:

  • Experience in monitoring and operating electrical power systems, ensuring the safe and effective operation of systems
  • Very high levels of skills specific to technical and operational programs
  • Demonstrated experience in applying analytical skills in problem solving, ensuring work is completed in line with safety requirements, with minimal impact to operations
  • Proven ability to interpret and assess technical drawings of electrical substations, distribution and overhead assets
  • A relevant Electrical Trade qualification
  • Be fluent in written and spoken English, and legally entitled to live and work in SA
  • Completed Tertiary Qualifications in Information Technology and/or significant proven experience, relevant to this discipline.
  • Required to work in accordance with a seven (7) day roster including morning, night, weekend and public holiday shifts
  • Must possess a current, valid and unrestricted Australian Drivers Licence

The Role

The Electrical Control Operator is responsible for:

  • The delivery of an effective and safe electrical control system on the Adelaide rail network through the control and monitoring of all operations in accordance with service agreements and operational plans
  • Organisation of maintenance work and support related to the electrical traction power system (includes substations, distribution and overhead wiring systems for trains) including monitoring and controlling access to electrical infrastructure for construction and maintenance activities, ensuring minimal impact to services and compliance with Rail Safe working rules, procedures and instructions
  • Implementation of isolations and permit requests
  • Coordinating response to emergencies which impact the traction power system
  • Monitoring electrical services and maintaining a vigilant response regime
  • Supporting large operational or technical work programs, services and projects
  • Undertaking investigations, maintaining records and systems and contributing to the planning of operational work programs, services and projects and the development of reports and performance benchmarking
  • Providing operational advice and delivering a high level of technical or operational skill that supports the delivery of programs
  • Coordinating maintenance work (preventative and emergency) for the electrical traction power system including control and advice of isolation via control mechanisms (e.g. SCADA), in accordance with Rail Safety requirement
  • Undertaking scheduled maintenance when required at the traction power substation
  • Undertaking planning and implementation of electrical isolation
  • Monitoring security systems of substations and switching stations for electrical control system related incidents
  • Responding to electrical control system incidents and coordinating all incident response and recovery activities for electrical operations, in accordance with emergency response procedures
  • Liaising and negotiating with internal and external operational or technical stakeholders, suppliers and service providers, to support the performance of large and complex operational or technical work programs, services and projects
  • Supporting the development and implementation of relevant and effective policies, strategies, standards, guidelines and procedures to meet goals and objectives including the preparation of procedural and technical documentation, reports and recommendations
  • Contributing to a safe, diverse and healthy work environment free from discrimination and harassment by working in accordance with legislative requirements
  • Contributing to a high standard of customer service for internal and external clients
  • Contributing to quality and risk management
  • Overseeing and employing work practices in the scope of the electrical traction power system to enable compliance with relevant Rail Safety, WH&S and environmental legislation, regulations and relevant Australian Standards and adherence to policies, procedures and practices
