Come and join us at Xero! Due to ongoing growth of our junior talent programs, we are looking for multiple experienced People Leads to lead Junior Talent (Graduates & Interns) in Auckland, Wellington and Melbourne!

You will coach, mentor and support Xero Junior Talent through Xero’s award-winning rotational Graduate Program!

What’s the role?

You will manage a group of graduates going through our Grad program. For their Grad year, they rotate through 4 different teams, experiencing different tech stacks and methodologies, before deciding what their career path will be. To set them up for success, you’ll focus on helping them set and achieve their technical, and professional skills goals throughout the year.

You will also look after our awesome Interns who will be joining a team over the summer months.

These are high pastoral care programs. You will play an integral role in many aspects of delivery, including rotation placements, delivering feedback, remuneration processes and excellent coaching and leadership for high potential graduates and interns.

We are keen to hear from people who love to help juniors grow and to empower them to do the best work of their lives. You will also work alongside other People Leads & with the Development Manager to foster the growth of a world-class engineering culture.

What you’ll do:

  • Encourage and support the professional development of the Junior Talent, which will include Graduates and summer Interns under your care
  • Engage with the engineering teams to build the close relationships necessary to deliver our programs.
  • Support the Graduate Experience Team in executing and improving Global Xero Junior Talent processes, such as attraction, selection, onboarding, development, and performance management.
  • Role-model exemplary leadership, supporting and growing leadership capability for Junior Talent.
  • Assist with the development of a world-class engineering culture where Junior Talent has the skills and autonomy needed to help build high-quality products and services.
  • Help to cultivate a fun, appreciative, rewarding, innovative and results-driven culture that lives and breathes our Xero values
  • Support the Graduate Team to Attract, recruit and retain high performing individuals
  • Measure the wellbeing of Junior Talent, ensuring that all members of your team are empowered to raise ideas and concerns, and that everyone contributes to improvements in how their team works together.
  • Run initiatives designed to improve the overall health and wellbeing of the Junior Talent you manage.
  • What you’ll bring with you:

  • A passion for helping people fulfil their potential. In particular, junior talent.
  • Considerable experience managing teams using modern leadership techniques
  • Extensive coaching and mentoring experience
  • Great understanding of modern software delivery and processes and practices
  • A growth mindset - you understand that competency is not fixed but is enhanced through dedication and hard work
  • Experience working in an Agile work environment.
  • Proven ability to navigate areas of conflict in an open, positive and proactive way
  • High EQ - you are self aware, self regulated, motivated and empathetic, with great interpersonal skills
  • You’re ok with uncertainty and change – and bring clarity amongst it.
