Transport for NSW is the lead agency of the NSW Transport cluster. Our role is to lead the development of a safe, efficient, integrated transport system that keeps people and goods moving, connects communities and shapes the future of our cities, centres and regions.

We are responsible for strategy, planning, policy, regulation, funding allocation and other non-service delivery functions for all modes of transport in NSW including road, rail, ferry, light rail, point to point, regional air, cycling and walking.
We focus on improving the customer experience and contract public and private operators to deliver customer-focused transport services on our behalf.

We also lead the procurement of transport infrastructure and oversee delivery through project delivery offices and industry delivery partners.

About the team

The Infrastructure and Place division is charged with the delivery of an ambitious and once-in-a generation $50 billion program of public infrastructure works. We are developing and delivering smart, integrated and sustainable infrastructure and places that are valued by our customers and communities.

The opportunity

There is a 4 year fixed term opportunity for a Scientific Officer to join our team. This role is based in Parkes, although alternate locations, including Orange, Dubbo, Bowenfels (Lithgow), or Narrabri, will be considered for the right candidate. Reporting to the Pavements and Geotechnical Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Developing accurate reports, providing geotechnical, materials or pavements advice, design, specifications and contracts for infrastructure projects
  • Planning, supervising, and conducting field and laboratory investigations
  • Undertaking desktop studies, field and/or laboratory investigations, interpretation, and design

About You

You have completed a Degree qualification in geology, geophysics or related science/engineering discipline with proven experience in providing effective geotechnical, materials or pavements services to clients, You have the ability to plan, conduct and lead a geotechnical investigation both in the office and in variable terrain; having strong knowledge of WHS and environmental requirements for geotechnical fieldwork and site supervision.

Note: you will need a current and valid Australian motor vehicle driver’s licence and be willing to work outside regular working hours and travel on occasion.

Salary and Benefits

The salary for this position is Grade USS7 ($92,928 - $98,074) or Grade USS8 ($102,098 - $109,561), dependent on level of experience, per annum plus superannuation and leave loading.
