What we’re looking for?
Based in our Head Office in Mulgrave, Melbourne an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Print / Textile Designer to join our Living Design team. This role will see you quickly become part of a design team that is critical to Kmart’s success. You will be designing for one of the most successful categories in Australian retail.
In this role as Senior Print/Textile Designer, you will be responsible for forecasting homeware print direction ad design and product development of our wide range of soft home products such as bed linen, throws, through to napery and rugs.
Essential to your design repertoire will be your strong understanding of print, colour and fabrication as well as your ability to complete design brief packages fit for product development for various soft home products.
TREND FORECASTING and RANGE BUILDING
The role has a strong trend component and given we are a Design led model, your knowledge and opinions will be valued! You will use your expertise to collaborate on trend forecast key items, print directions, fabric techniques and your strong ranging skills will ensure your ability to pull together a cohesive range.
You will bring to the role a strong understanding of range architecture, entry/exit prices, cost prices, profit margins, volume and how to drive category growth and will possess commercial handwriting that fits in with Kmart’s everyday day low price strategy, but at the same time elevating it to a level we haven’t seen before.
Collaboration is key! Working closely with the Buyer, part of your role will include account management which will see you influencing situations and outcomes. You will require strong stakeholder management skills coupled with the ability to manage up and down and will have prior experience partnering with a Buyer. Teamwork is a given as you work in partnership with various departments across the business including our Asia Sourcing team.
Your success in this role will be measured by your ability to ensure speed to market, understanding of market trends and product differentiation from competitors. You will have already made a strong impact in previous roles and your sound background in print and textile design will be integral to your success. You will have a structured approach, be incredibly well organised with strong time management skills, deadline driven and process orientated.
