Job Description

The Role

The laboratory provides an analytical testing service to support the requirements of various processes and stakeholders operating within the site. Analytical data generated by the laboratory supports operations by facilitating process control and plant performance monitoring, environmental and compliance monitoring and through the evaluation of final product quality conformance to promote product sell through.

The Laboratory Team Leader role will provide technical support to the Laboratory through the provision of technical expertise and mentoring of team members to ensure reliable and accurate analytical results are generated within agreed and specified turnaround times.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provision of leadership and technical support to team members through mentoring to promote self-management and independent problem-solving capabilities

  • Drive method development and validation activities

  • Ability to produce both quality and technical documentation

  • Evaluate the acceptability of analytical results in areas of responsibility and assume approved signatory responsibilities

  • Ensure quality assurance within the Laboratory is consistently maintained in accordance with ISO/IEC 17025 requirements

  • Effectively communicate all information to relevant stakeholders and team members at all times

Work Experience Requirements

  • 5 – 10 years laboratory experience

  • Sound knowledge through the application of various analytical techniques for example but not limited to ICP-AES, GF-AAS, XRF, PSD and classical techniques

  • Well- developed leadership skills including high level communication, coaching, influencing and negotiation skills

  • Demonstrated laboratory system development experience

  • Working knowledge of Laboratory health and safety requirements and expectations

  • Working knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 requirements

  • Supervisory experience highly desirable

  • Production plant processing experience highly desirable

Education/Qualification Requirements

Tertiary qualification in Science and/ or Chemistry or a related discipline
