Be the one to shape and influence the direction that nbn takes for the long term Satellite technology strategy.

This role forms part of the Wireless Technology team that sits within the Chief Technology Office (CTO) of nbn.

The Wireless Technology team within CTO investigates future wireless, including Satellite, technology options for nbn and is accountable for the development of network evolution strategies and proposed future architectures.

The Wireless Technology team is also accountable for executing Proof of Concepts (POCs), studies and demonstrations.

A bit about your role

The Senior Architect Satellite Technologies role acts as an internal consultant supporting nbn to formulate technology strategies. The Senior Architect Satellite Technologies role also acts as a subject matter expert and as a technology prime on CTO satellite initiatives that may take the form of desktop modeling and studies, lab and field studies, proof of concepts, strategies and architectures.

This role must consult the satellite and wireless technology industry including vendors and standards bodies, as well as various business units within nbn to form conclusions for the purpose of delivering the planned outcomes of CTO satellite initiatives.

The responsibilities of the role are set out in the Job Description but at a high level include:

  • Lead the development of a long term (10 years plus) strategy for Satellite technology in nbn
  • Preparation of reports for investigations and desktop studies, POCs, demonstrations and proposed architecture development
  • Contribute to the development of long-term technology strategies to ensure alignment to the broader network strategy of nbn
  • Provide recommendations and guidance regarding the technical direction and strategy of the Satellite and Wireless Technology initiatives
  • Provide technical leadership for the full lifecycle of satellite and wireless technology initiatives
  • Develop a thorough understanding of Satellite deployment and technology trends

A bit about you

To be successful in this role, you will have extensive experience (10 years +) in Satellite networks, systems or design engineering and ideally experience in the implementation of Satellite deployments.

Evidence of understanding LEO satellite systems and GEO satellite systems, both Australian international market dynamics and economics. Keen business acumen to evaluate relative competitive threats and opportunities from the rapidly developing eco-system.

Having the tertiary qualification that is relevant to the IT industry, especially Satellite, Engineering or applied Science and Computing would be advantageous as well as having the experience in understanding the spectrum policy landscape in Australia.

You will demonstrate strong analytical and report writing skills, and the ability to communicate complex issues in a clear and concise manner and have strong attention to detail.

On a personal level, you will have extensive experience in managing strong relationships and can build rapport quickly with key internal and external stakeholders. You will have experience working with senior stakeholders and the ability to engage confidently and professionally and present to senior business and industry audiences.
