Transport for NSW is the lead agency of the NSW Transport cluster. Our role is to lead the development of a safe, efficient, integrated transport system that keeps people and goods moving, connects communities and shapes the future of our cities, centres and regions.
We are responsible for strategy, planning, policy, regulation, funding allocation and other non-service delivery functions for all modes of transport in NSW including road, rail, ferry, light rail, point to point, regional air, cycling and walking.
We focus on improving the customer experience and contract public and private operators to deliver customer-focused transport services on our behalf.
We also lead the procurement of transport infrastructure and oversee delivery through project delivery offices and industry delivery partners.

About the team
The Infrastructure and Place division is charged with the delivery of an ambitious and once-in-a generation $50 billion program of public infrastructure works. We are developing and delivering smart, integrated and sustainable infrastructure and places that are valued by our customers and communities.
There is a newly created 4 year fixed term opportunity for a Lead Road Designer to join our Design Team. Based in Western Region of NSW and reporting to the Lead Road Design Manager, you will be responsible for:
- Leading the delivery of internally and externally prepared road designs on major road infrastructure projects
- Supervising and motivate a team of technical staff and cross functional team members
- Acting as a subject matter expert and point of escalation for complex and technical issues
- Undertaking reviews and safety audits on road designs
- Contributing to improved design outcomes by developing and maintaining constructive and collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders

You will have completed a Tertiary Qualification in Engineering or a related discipline; with a thorough knowledge of road design principles and methodologies and their application in a functional or discipline area. As you will be managing a team of between 4 and 6 individuals, you will need to have a passion for and proven ability in leading, guiding, and mentoring a team / teams of specialist designers and engineers.
Salary and Benefits
The salary for this position is Grade 8 ($102,098 - $109,561) or Grade 9 (114,601 - $123,199), dependant on level of experience, per annum plus superannuation and leave loading.
