The Own & Exclusive Brands Team is responsible for growing the profitable sales of the Own and Exclusive Brand range by delivering highly competitive, differentiated products. The Own & Exclusive Brands Team is tasked with balancing the mix between category and customer need, Own & Exclusive Brands growth opportunities and the development and maintenance of a capable supply base.

About the role


Positioned within our FoodCo Own & Exclusive Brand Team, we are looking for an experienced Buyer to support our high-performing team in driving the continued profitability of our Woolworths Supermarkets and Small stores. With both a passion for food and strong buying experience, you will be responsible for developing and executing our Own Brand category plans in close collaboration with our Category teams and Product Developers.

You will be required to work with a wide variety of stakeholders from both within the business and with our supply base and must therefore possess excellent stakeholder management, negotiation and problem solving skills. You will need to develop an intimate knowledge of your products and your customer, as well as the ability to stay on top of category trends, technologies, innovation, competition and supplier capability.

This end-to-end role will test your commercial acumen, negotiation skills and ability to influence the senior leadership team in a healthy way. It is essential to possess a positive attitude and be able to manage complex and competing priorities while maintaining a calm demeanour.

This role reports to the Senior Own & Exclusive Brand Manager & business partners with the FoodCo senior leadership team.

Key Responsibilities but not limited to:

  • Negotiate contracts on existing and new product portfolio.
  • Deliver COGS reductions across the respective categories without impacting quality, through ensuring better buying and working collaboratively with our suppliers.
  • Working closely with the Product Development teams to help negotiate the right balance of COGs and quality.
  • Review, refine and amend supplier strategies so WW has the most compelling offers.
  • Monitor and act upon KPIs to ensure supply continuity across the product portfolio.
  • Regularly review stock loss, determine the root causes and apply actions to minimise these losses.

About You

You’re driven by a customer mission and you are passionate about being part of a team of great people. Whatever you love - customer experience, business process, trading, leadership or data, you’re active in the community that sits around it.

Your previous experience includes experience in a retail/commercial function at buyer or equivalent level and Prior experience in supplier development and procurement.

You orient around doing what’s meaningful, purposeful and delivers value. You’re excited about being part of the transformation of one of Australia’s largest Liquor retailers and are passionate about using your ability to build ranges and promotional programmes from scratch and using commercial acumen to manage a category P&L.

You’re curious and empathetic, with an eye for the bigger picture. You deal with complexity by collaborating with colleagues, listening to customers and suppliers, testing ideas and continuously learning. You take authorship for what you create.
