What we are looking for:

The Payroll Compliance and Project Specialist is a newly created role, and is part of the Wellington based Finance Team, which undertakes the finance function for all of Xero’s worldwide operations. The Pay Team, within the wider Finance Team, is a global shared service. The purpose of the role is to provide compliance and project support to the pay team.

What you’ll do:

  • Risk and compliance monitoring, including identifying, developing and implementing solutions and processes to support the Pay team’s effective, efficient and compliant processing of Xero’s payrolls.
  • Reviewing and auditing of payroll services in accordance with organisational policies and procedures and in line with the legislative, departmental and auditing requirements
  • Keeping up to date with legislation changes across all jurisdictions, and researching any payroll or tax issues that arise
  • Implementing new procedures and processes as required to support the effective, efficient and compliant processing of Xero’s payrolls
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and recommend solutions support the effective, efficient and compliant processing of Xero’s payrolls
  • Provide support to the team to use current systems correctly and efficiently, and assisting with implementation of new systems and/or processes as required
  • Working closely with Infinet Cloud and the Xero internal Workday team to support payroll systems and processes

What you’ll bring:

The successful candidate will have strong in-depth knowledge across all payroll functions, including New Zealand legislative requirements relating to the Holidays Act Legislation. In addition, the role involves research of payroll legislation across regions where Xero operates.

  • Strong payroll knowledge and 5+ years’ experience in managing payroll
  • Experience in project management and implementation
  • Experience with NetSuite or similar cloud based payroll system highly desirable
  • Experience with global payrolls an advantage
  • In-depth knowledge of workplace, payroll and tax legislation
  • Ability to research and document any relevant legislation and tax guidance
