About the opportunity
At Alcoa’s WA Operations we produce some of the world’s highest-grade alumina through a complex refining process. To enable this each of our three refineries run their own natural gas-fired power stations, lowering energy costs and refinery emissions as we work towards Alcoa’s value of sustainability.
The productivities and efficiencies of our power stations are not solely due to our technologies, but the skills and knowledge of those that operate them, our Power Station Controllers. Right now, Alcoa is looking to train and develop the new generation of Controllers by offering an opportunity for a two-year Power Station Traineeship.
As a PowerStation Controller Trainee, working in a high tech and exciting environment you will be provided with both on and off the job competency-based training. Our three Power Stations at Kwinana, Pinjarra and Wagerup all have unique technologies so you will be rotating around these sites as you complete studies to earn your nationally recognised qualification of Certificate III in ESI Generation as well as an Advanced Boiler and Steam Turbine Work Safe Licences.
To play a part in our ongoing success we are seeking individuals with:
A safety-first approach, looking out for not only yourself but your colleagues
An ability to work collaboratively and in harmony with others, encouraging and supporting your crew
Good communication skills, willing to listen and learn, provide and accept feedback
A flexible work approach, moving around our locations and always trying new things
A strong technical ability with a methodical work approach and problem solving capabilities
Honesty, we know mistakes occur, but we need those that are willing to admit it, learn from it and move onwards
A positive, pro-active nature, with determination and persistence
Leadership skills and qualities to move forward in your career to frontline management opportunities
Our values – act with integrity, operate with excellence, care for people – are at the foundation of everything we do.
At Alcoa we strive to create an inclusive workplace where employees can bring their whole selves to work regardless of their background. We know it starts and finishes with you, which is why our value ‘care for people’ is so important to us. It ensures not only your physical safety but also provides an inclusive and welcoming workplace for people from all walks of life, encouraging diversity of thought from each and every person.
We embrace change, new ideas and promote a culture of respect and equal opportunity. Our employment programs, underpinned by diversity and equality, continue to be recognised and rewarded. We encourage applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, women and LGBTIQ+ job seekers.
As an Alcoa employee, you will embark on growth opportunities and can truly make a difference being part of an organisation that respects and considers flexibility whilst empowering you with stimulating and exciting work.
