Head of Strategic Business Development - Public Sector ANZ

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for an experienced and motivated senior strategist, business leader and people manager to coach, grow, and partner with experienced business development professionals, in delivering quality transformation programs and citizen centric outcomes to the public sector. You will help develop the industry’s best business development professionals by enabling and coaching them on strategic planning, public sector engagement best practices, solution selling, value proposition development, and to open up new market opportunities. You will hire, onboard, and develop a distributed team across Australia and New Zealand, inducting them to engage with the most senior levels of State Governments, in establishing long term innovation partnerships. You will support your team to gain an in-depth appreciation of National and State priorities, and become trusted advisors to public sector leaders of these priority mission programs, whether they be economic recovery, environmental and resource management, or health and safety.

In this role, you will need to be credible and business savvy in your own right, having done the hard yards of leading significant government transformation programs, as well as being effective in shaping the strategic business and market development skills of your team. You must enjoy learning, practicing, and teaching the innovation process in order to help colleagues, customers and your team to embrace the same. You will also need to be adept at interacting, communicating and partnering with other departments within AWS such as our sales and marketing team, public policy, industry vertical teams, professional services and partner business team. You must represent your team well to executive management, and act as the spokesperson and thought leader when it comes to strategic engagement matters with State Governments.


As you build up your team, you will performance manage and set SMART goals for these senior professionals, that are aligned to citizen outcomes. You will lead your team in regular strategic planning processes, and measure and report on your team's achievements and results. Your team's primary goal is to work with state and federal government organisations, creating long term strategic relationships and enable public sector transformation through cloud innovation, specifically enable the delivery of stated national priorities and strategic objectives.

You will support your team to identify, prioritise and describe the pursuit of local, state and federal based strategic opportunities and influence a broad group of internal stakeholders to provide solutions best placed to win these strategic opportunities.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Hire, on-board, train, and develop new Business Development Managers from internal and external sources
  • As a member of the extended leadership team, ensure success in strategic pursuits together with other business groups such as public policy, capture, partner and sales
  • Manage and mentor your team to high performance
  • Be the guiding light for State Government engagement strategy, through a deep appreciation of government roadmaps
  • Share customer feedback to internal product management and engineering teams to help drive the future of AWS
  • Identify and development strategic, net new opportunities
  • Work with the sales and partner teams on strategic pursuits
  • Work with the team to organize internal enablement workshops and facilitate the sharing of knowledge across teams
  • 10+ years of senior people management experience, including manager of managers
    Open to domestic travel up to 50%

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Tertiary degree or equivalent experience
  • Proven people management experience
  • Extensive experience in working with public sector government departments
  • Strategic planner with the ability to articulate down to operational delivery of concepts
  • Client experience and the ability to have peer-to-peer engagements with CxOs
  • Knowledge of AWS products and services
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
• Experience serving on government advisory boards
