About the role

The in-house legal team currently consists of 12 lawyers and is a lively and young team of lawyers who service the whole of South East Asia. The team are primarily a team of specialist front-end and back-end construction lawyers.

Due to its growing business, Laing O’Rourke is currently recruiting a senior corporate lawyer to join the in-house legal team. This role will be part of the Senior Leadership Team, working closely with the Legal Director to shape the corporate aspects of the business and support the finance, treasury and work winning teams.

Key responsibilities

Reporting to the Legal Director, your role will involve providing advice and support to the executive and senior management for corporate legal services, including ownership of the following areas:

  • company secretarial assistance and support for all of the companies within the Australian Group;
  • the preparation, maintenance and implementation of governance-related policies, procedures and processes;
  • finance transactions;
  • corporate structuring;
  • property transactions;
  • intellectual property; and
  • other strategic corporate initiatives.

Your role will also include management of any external legal providers which are required in your areas of responsibility.

The role is a full time, but for an experienced candidate we are prepared to offer the role on a part time basis. This is a flexible working environment, with opportunities for both office based work and working from home.

About you

To be successful in the role you will ideally meet the following criteria:

  • A minimum of 7 years’ PAE. In-house experience would be well regarded.
  • A good working knowledge and experience of advising on corporate legal services and company secretarial support.
  • The ability to work autonomously as part of a collegiate team.
  • A pragmatic and practical approach, as well as being solutions focussed.
  • Impressive interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A drive to succeed.

There will also be opportunities in the broader business and any experience and capability in construction contracts or construction disputes will be considered favourably.
