Your Role and Responsibilities
A/NZ Real Estate Environmental Management System Coordinator – 2 years Fixed Term contract – Canberra

IBM is committed to environmental leadership and continual improvement of its Worldwide (WW) Environmental Management System (EMS), including management of its environmental, energy, and chemical aspects and their associated impacts on the Environment.

We are currently recruiting an A/NZ Real Estate Environmental Management System Coordinator for a 24 months fixed term contract, based in Canberra.

The position is responsible for implementing and maintaining IBM’s A/NZ EMS manual and driving continual improvement of the relevant programs and voluntary environmental goals. Execution of the role and responsibilities of this position will require periodic communication, advice and support of the various environmental focal points in business functions that intersect with the environmental in their daily business activities.

Skills, competencies and training
  • Requires professional qualifications in environmental management or similar.
  • More than 3 years experience in implementation of environmental, energy or chemical management programs.
  • More than 3 years working with environmental or energy management systems in business or government organisations.
  • Have been involved in environmental auditing programs of management systems.
  • Have implemented ISO management system standard requirements for environmental or energy or quality programs.
  • Experience in training requirements on IBM’s EMS requirements are provided in the Environmental guidance and training modules accessed at the Corporate Environmental Affairs and Product Safety Intranet Web site

Role and responsibilities

The responsibilities of the position for the IBM Australian and New Zealand (A/NZ) environmental management system includes the following:
  1. Maintain and drive continual improvement of the environmental, energy and chemical management programs and procedures and monitor and report performance of legal compliance, of the voluntary environmental goals and management system to A/NZ RESO EMS Top Management. The environmental management programs cover, energy and chemical management, water conservation, waste minimisation and recycling, environmental due diligence, supplier environmental evaluations, and environmental incident prevention, preparedness, response and reporting. This role included helping execute IBM’s Environmental Policy objectives, legal and IBM environmental commitments to drive the intended outcomes of IBM’s global EMS in A/NZ.
  2. Maintain the EMS procedures and processes in the company’s recorded management tool, QMX.
  3. The position is responsible for communicating the relevant environmental requirements and associated information to the appropriate identified environmental focal points at their and to other relevant business functions in order to facilitate effective environmental management. This will include maintaining environmental content on the RESO Intranet Web page and prepare articles for newsletters and similar employee and contractor communications as required.
  4. Identify training needs and provide appropriate training for employees or persons working on behalf of IBM whose work may cause a significant environmental impact(s) and/or breach of legal requirements or compliance obligations.
  5. Prepare and delivery periodic environmental incident response and reporting training to relevant personnel that may influence the intended outcomes for the A/NZ EMS.
  6. Conduct environmental site assessments to determine the level of implementation of the environmental and chemical management programs across A/NZ. Identify and drive closure of any corrective and preventative actions.
  7. Provide environmental information, support and advice as request for business units and for sales bid responses.
  8. Gather, input and submit environmental performance data into the corporate EPD (Environmental Performance Database) annually by the end of February.
  9. Prepare annual environmental performance and compliance reports for the A/NZ RESO Manager to submit and present to the Australian Group Board in April each year.
  10. Input and coordinate submittal of annual country EMS compliance data into the environmental PSA (Professional Self-Assessment) tool for Australia and for New Zealand on behalf of A/NZ RESO, by September 15 each year.
  11. Implement the chemicals use authorisation process for A/NZ RESO to cover JLL and other RESO contractors’ activities at IBM locations e.g. building support infrastructure maintenance.
  12. Maintain the ISO 14001 accreditation for IBM Australia requiring coordination of the annual internal EMS audit and the third party BVC audits for maintaining certification to ISO 14001 EMS standard and for the A/NZ country energy management assessments. Follow up and closes out any corrective actions as required. This includes coordinating efforts with applicable staff within and outside other relevant business functions in A/NZ to achieve the intended outcomes of the A/NZ EMS and that of IBM’s global EMS.
  13. Manage the submittal of the annual compliance report under the Australian National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Scheme (NGERS), for IBM A/NZ Holdings Pty Ltd, by 31 October yearly.
  14. Undertake other responsibilities as deemed necessary in agreement with EMS management representatives to implement IBM’s A/NZ EMS.

Compensation package from $74,250 (full-time equivalent inclusive of superannuation) and will be determined based on successful candidates relevant skills and experience.
