Downer Mining are seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join the team on a permanent basis at Carrapateena , a large-scale, world class modern underground mine owned by OZ minerals located in South Australia 160km north of Port Augusta.

This role will be on a 9/5 roster and flights will be offered from all Major Regional Hubs


As a Project Engineer you will;

  • Assist with the development and training of graduate mining engineers on site
  • Assist in developing improvements to the mine planning methods and systems
  • Conduct regular reviews of the relevant technical and operating advances in the industry to ensure the competitiveness of the methods employed in mine planning
  • Assist in the start-up of new projects / operations
  • Participate in site-based projects aimed at achieving industry best practice
  • Manage the conduct of mine planning reviews and studies and assist with mining system implementations as required by Operations


You will have a proven track record in a similar role, within the mining industry and you will be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Tertiary qualifications in either mining or civil engineering
  • Experience in a Project Engineer role based at an underground metalliferous mine
  • Technical and analytical skills in relation to mining activities and mining equipment
  • Underground Mine Manager’s certificate or equivalent underground operational experience
  • Understanding of production and operating costs associated with underground plant and equipment
  • Computer literacy combined with experience in the design and operating aspects of hard rock mines
  • Demonstrated technical and analytical skills in relation to mining activities and equipment.
  • Relevant operating permits and authorisations endorsed by the registered Site Manager
  • Current Manuel Driver Licence
  • Ability to operate as part of a team.
  • Sound interpersonal and communication skills
  • A positive attitude towards safety and a strong work ethic
