About the Project
The Jindalee Operational Radar Network (JORN) has been a part of Australian defence landscape for many decades and comprises three Over-The-Horizon-Radar (OTHR) systems to provide surveillance coverage of our northern border. BAE Systems has been awarded the contract to manage the upgrade of this 100 percent Australian solution that is strategically important to Australia's security.

About the Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a committed Manufacturing Project Manager – Electronic Systems to provide leadership on the JORN program. This key leadership position will be offered on a permanent and full time basis. The value of the production budget is approximately $40-50M.

The Manufacturing Project Manager – Electronic Systems is responsible for the design for manufacture inputs into the design and principally for the production planning, subcontract management and delivery of the hardware products that will be installed across the JORN sites. This opportunity will suit a strategically minded manufacturing professional with leadership abilities and experience across the entire design for manufacture, production and supply lifecycle.

The types of production and commodities are primarily:

  • Loading of components onto Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs)
  • Cable manufacture
  • Enclosure manufacturing and assembly (extruding/machining/fabrication)
  • Loading of PCBs into enclosures (LRUs) and the LRUs into racks
  • Electrical testing of LRU's, Racks and systems

A significant aspect of the role will be production planning and optimisation, other aspects also include:

  • Scheduling, material planning and make/buy activities
  • Conduct supplier capability and capacity assessments
  • Determine production build test strategies
  • Undertake manufacturing and assembly process flows
  • Coordinate activities between product engineering, plant operations and external suppliers.

About you
As an ideal applicant for this opportunity, you'll have:

  • Extensive experience in a technical manufacturing, production or operations environment
  • Manufacturing/production engineering management or project management experience coupled with production planning skills
  • An understanding of project management principles including risk management and earned value management
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and supplier management skills

Whilst not essential, experience utilising Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRP) systems or experience with the production of electronic components and hardware will be highly regarded.
