About the role

The Technical Officer is responsible for providing specialist engineering and analysis support, across NSM’s Programs, to investigate and provide recommendations to resolve problems and issues.

  • Perform specialist engineering and analysis support that includes:
  • Collection of data to aid supportability, engineering analysis and investigations
  • Technical, logistics, reliability and supportability (including obsolescence) assessments
  • Maintenance/supportability analyses
  • Engineering analysis and investigations
  • Liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders in the execution of assigned duties whilst maintaining records and providing reports and recommendations
  • Provide advice and assistance to stakeholders on technical aspects associated with the development and implementation of configuration/inventory changes and improvements for naval vessels
  • Liaise with operational, technical and logistics support agencies to support data analysis and associated practical query resolutions

About you

Essential

  • Previous exposure to engineering and asset management policies and processes
  • Engineering investigation/analysis experience in Maritime environment
  • Knowledge and familiarity working under an engineering governance framework
  • Experience in updating technical documentation, data driven report writing and performing RCA’s
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, in particular Word and Excel
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Practice a solution focused approach
  • Excellent interpersonal and team skills
  • Excellent internal and external customer service skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision in an environment with competing priorities and strict deadlines
  • Must either hold, or be eligible to obtain an Australian Defence Security Clearance
  • MUST be an Australian Citizen

Desirable

  • Qualifications in Engineering, Project Management or other relevant technical field, and/or an equivalent level of experience
  • Engineering experience in aDefence environment
  • Inventory/Logistics data management experience
  • Previous experience with the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and/or the Capability, Acquisition and Sustainment Group (CASG)
  • Knowledge of the Royal Australian Navy’s Seaworthiness and N4 Library regime would be advantageous
  • Knowledge of Defence logistics systems; NMCRL, MCC, MILIS, NAVALLOW
  • Proven record of management and compliance within an engineering governance structure
  • Working knowledge of Asset Management best practice
  • Experience in Naval Technical Regulatory System and/or Defence Seaworthiness Management System (DSwMS)
