Work closely with the Head of Regulatory and Global Privacy Counsel, and as an integrated part of the Legal Team, to help deliver Xero’s regulatory programme of work and to provide legal services on regulatory matters affecting Xero globally. Take a proactive approach to, and support the Head of Regulatory with, the identification and management of all regulatory risk and potential impacts to Xero across the global business. Undertake research and provide proactive legal and regulatory advice, analyses and risk assessments. Prepare internal policies in relation to regulatory compliance. Monitor changes to law and proactively inform Xero’s Head of Regulatory, particularly where projects and resources will be required to implement regulatory requirements. Collaborate and coordinate with applicable business units and key stakeholders across the globe. Support relevant policy and government affairs roles by assisting with: (a) the formulation of Xero’s response to regulatory enquiries and frameworks; (b) influencing government bodies for change; and (c) submissions on proposed law changes relevant to Xero’s business. Participate in special projects and assignments of strategic importance to Xero. Monitor Xero’s regulatory reporting obligations and assist with preparing and submitting required reports. Assist the Legal Team with day-to-day regulatory queries in contracts. Assist with relevant training and awareness programmes for Xero staff regarding regulatory matters. Assist with the management of relationships with regulators.

High level of attention to detail. Ability to work autonomously. Ability to take a proactive and creative approach to managing/solving legal issues. Collaborative, growth and innovation mindset. Ability to convey complex legal matters in a digestible, plain-English format.
Experience with financial services (essential) and data protection (desirable) regulations. Experience providing regulatory advice to global, growth focused businesses (ideally with a technology focus). Experience liaising with regulators and statutory/law enforcement bodies. Current AU or NZ practising certificate (essential). Relevant law degree with 7+ years' PQE in non-contentious regulatory roles.

Reporting to Xero's Head of Regulatory in Wellingon, NZ you will be part of Xero's agile global Legal Team. You will work closely with external advisors and key stakeholders on all matters relating to Xero's regulatory risk and ongoing compliance.
You will be responsible for partnering with the business to provide legal advice and expertise on a broad range of regulatory matters affecting Xero globally, delivering the Legal Team’s regulatory programme of work, as well as helping ensure that the business stays compliant with the various regulatory regimes it is subject to. This is a global role, requiring a global mindset towards the management of Xero’s regulatory risk.
