The role

This Technical Lead role has a data focus and you will bring your passion and understanding of how data should flow in a distributed system. You will contribute to and provide leadership in the data strategy across Iress. You will play a key role in assisting teams with unlocking the value of data while adhering to appropriate governance.

As a Tech Lead you are responsible for providing technical leadership to a growing a team of strong and agile developers to ensure high quality and efficient delivery of innovative products that are able to capture global markets. We are looking for someone with a sharp aptitude for the latest trends in the software engineering, passion for building products that are a pleasure to use, and fondness for guiding teams to success while fostering personal growth of every individual on the team.


What you will be doing

  • Work with engineers to conceptualise architecture and develop designs for various data focused initiatives including data pipelines, warehouse, reporting and analytics solutions.

  • Contributing to and provides leadership in the data strategy across the organisation

  • Assisting teams with unlocking the value of data while developing and adhering to good governance.

  • Provide processes and an environment that make it easy for the team to consistently deliver quality software, efficiently and on time, while still promoting creativity and innovation

  • Assist in identifying process and product weaknesses and possible refinements in an environment of continual evolution and improvement

  • Work with your team to deliver high quality products on time

  • Keep up to date with technical trends, tools and methodologies, undertake research as required

  • Educate developers in industry best practices, technical trends, tool and methodologies

What you will need

  • Experience in designing data and how data should be structured

  • A strong understanding of how data flows between systems

  • Experience with mentoring, coaching and upskilling others

  • Experience with Data Architecture and a deep understanding of databases

  • Experience with distributed systems

  • Experience with SQL ( MongoDB or Dynamo DB)

  • Experience with AWS and or Kafka would be highly desirable

  • Must be pro-active in identifying opportunities for improvement. Ability to relate effectively to all levels of business users and technology people

  • A combination of personality traits (smart, innovative, low ego, collaborative, honest, of high-integrity, intensity and passion). Someone who creates loyality and trust

  • Solicits the involvement of others to build a sense of ownership. Must have confidence to act quickly and decisively when the market requires such agility
