How this position will Make the Difference to City of Melbourne…

Reporting to the Team Leader Open Space Planning and Green Infrastructure, you will be responsible for coordinating and delivering leading edge policy development, strategic planning and green infrastructure projects for the City of Melbourne. The role has a particular focus on green roofs, walls and facades and small scale interventions in spaces traditionally not thought of to provide amenity and/or sustainability outcomes.

You will play a critical role in reviewing, developing and managing the forward planning, design and delivery of strategic green infrastructure planning, projects and capital works delivered by the Parks and City Greening Branch. In addition, you will provide direction, leadership and on-the-job training to your direct reports.

This role will be accountable for the coordination and delivery of the Green Our City Action Plan 2017–2021 actions, including Green Our Rooftop – a green roof construction project incorporating communications and research – which will be completed in the next 12 months. This role will also support the Planning Scheme Amendment to incorporate green infrastructure (and environmentally sustainable design) in new developments into the Melbourne Planning Scheme and act as the key contact for green infrastructure-related enquiries, research and industry engagement and advocacy.

The successful candidate will have experience in a similar role or related field, and will possess sound knowledge and experience in project management, contract administration and people leadership. You will have highly developed interpersonal communication skills to liaise and interact effectively and professionally with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders at various levels.

  • A tertiary qualification in Ecosystem or Environmental Science, Horticulture, Planning, Landscape Architecture, or equivalent.
  • Leadership capability including leading by example and consistently working towards a constructive culture.
  • Relevant professional experience and applied knowledge of green infrastructure.
  • Highly developed analytical and lateral thinking skills with the demonstrated ability to drive strategy and affect change.
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills with an ability to represent Council in public forums and to negotiate positive outcomes.
