The Practice Platform team is responsible for developing Xero’s Practice APIs that will power Xero’s next generation practice strategy for the next five years having all products building on top of it. This will provide the foundation for all experiences targeted at solving the needs of our Accountants & Bookkeepers.

This Technical Lead / Principal Engineer role will be responsible for the technical leadership of two cross-functional Pods in this team, guidance across our wider group and to our internal customers. These cross-functional Pods are focused on:

(a) integrating our platform systems together and establishing a single source of truth fuelling cohesive and seamless user experiences, and;
(b) creating best of class developer experiences to consume our Practice APIs for third party application developers who are solving problems for Accountants & Bookkeepers that we are not solving right now.

What will I be doing?

Setting the standard for software development amongst your peers, you’ll be adept at creating scalable software and are able to use a variety of tools which are appropriate. It’s important to understand that people will look up to you for your professionalism, insight and guidance as to how you’re able to build the most robust, scalable web applications.

You’ll be confident to help develop great ideas with the support of an array of professionals for the benefit of your team members and the wider Product teams too.

What we’re looking for?

- A strong team player who is highly skilled in collaborating with others to find solutions
- An excellent communicator, who can fill the gaps between technical and non-technical specialists
- Proven track record of delivering complex technical solutions that span multiple systems
- Proven track record supporting systems in production
- Experience working with distributed services and integrating them with existing systems

- Have strong opinions, lightly held
- Experience with cloud platforms and their offerings (particularly AWS)
- An eye for detail to technical documentation and a passion for API design
- Foresight on technical risks
