The Safety, Environment and Regulation division promotes safety and sustainability of the transport system. We undertake research, educate communities, develop policies and enforce regulations to constantly improve safety and environmental outcomes.

The opportunity

The Newell Highway Upgrade program builds on the NSW and Australian Government’s commitments to improve safety and travel on the Newell Highway. As a once in a generational investment in infrastructure in western NSW, the NSW Government, in conjunction with the Australian Government, is delivering a large infrastructure upgrade program for this important transport route.

Use your knowledge, experience and leadership skills as a Senior Environment Officer with Infrastructure experience to participate in this large project located in Western NSW.

What you will be involved in

  • Providing expert advice on environmental legislation, government and environmental policy and procedures to support the delivery of various infrastructure development programs.
  • Influencing multidisciplinary project teams, including external contractors in the early and ongoing identification and management of environmental risks and issues to facilitate the achievement of environmental best practice and risk minimisation.
  • Undertaking site inspections and environmental audits in accordance with policies and procedure to promote continuous improvement in environmental performance and compliance with regulatory, contractual and system requirements.
  • Reviewing and preparing comprehensive environmental assessment documentation to support the assessment of environmental impacts.

About you

You are tertiary qualified in environmental science, environmental planning, environmental management or a related discipline.

Your experience working within multi-disciplinary infrastructure project teams to deliver high quality environmental assessment documentation and providing practical guidance to identify and manage risks to improve the environmental performance of projects is essential.

Your previous experience in monitoring and evaluating environmental performance while providing advice and guidance to improve environmental outcomes in the operation phases of construction will equip you well as you will be on site engaging with a variety of stakeholders.

As you will be engaging with a variety of stakeholders from environmental academics to site foreman in addition to leading and mentoring more junior Environment Officers you will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

You must hold a Class C Drivers Licence as you will be required to travel to sites.

This is a fantastic role where you will be able to use and build on your leadership and comprehensive environment skills gained in an infrastructure environment while contributing to valuable projects and the NSW environment.

Salary and Benefits

The salary for this position is USS Grade 10 ($123,229 - $134,668) per annum plus superannuation and leave loading.
