About the role:
As a Laboratory Assistant, you will assist in the operations of the Scientific Services Laboratory, including collection of samples and laboratory analysis. Key accountabilities will include however not limited to:
  • Sample preparation in accordance with laboratory test method and quality system requirements and sample collection in accordance with sampling procedures.
  • Sampling and analysis of water and wastewater in accordance with the laboratory quality system to meet NATA requirements, including recording of data, calculation of results and production of results in a timely manner.
  • Assistant Laboratory Technicians and Analysts in more complex analysis of water and wastewater samples.
  • Operation and maintenance of basic laboratory equipment and general laboratory duties.
  • Interact with the laboratory’s database (LIMS) to prepare worksheets, enter data and locate job registration details.
About you:

  • Experience or awareness of laboratory techniques and instrumentation in the fields of chemical and / or microbiological analysis.
  • Experience or awareness of sampling of water and wastewater
  • Awareness of quality management systems and the relevance to laboratory work.
  • Sound MS Office suite and computer skills.
  • Associate Diploma or higher qualification in Laboratory Techniques, Chemistry or Microbiology will be highly regarded however not essential.
  • Strong organisation and time management skills, coupled with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Ability to work autonomously and in a team in a fast-paced environment.
