Downer is seeking a skilled Communications / Fibre Technician to join our team on a six month fixed term contract. Responsible for the installation, maintenance, alterations and termination of all fibre and communication related systems.

Our new team member will have the following skills and attributes:

  • Installations, troubleshooting and maintenance of Fibre Optic infrastructure;
  • Termination of all types of fibre optic cable including SMOF, MMOF, Blown and OPGW:
  • Record testing and diagnosing multiple installations of fibre using both Light Source, Power meter and OPGW;
  • Record testing, diagnose and terminate structured cabling;
  • Coordinate and monitor completion of projects work orders;
  • Inventory management; and
  • Monitor updates and disseminate drawings, records, documentation to ensure compliance


  • Open Cabling License with Fibre Optic Endorsement
  • Experience in Security and CCTV Systems;
  • Ability to work on all types of joints and enclosures, internal and external from 6 – 144 Cores;
  • Proficient in MS Office, Excel and Word;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication;
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills;
  • Strong organisation and analytical; and
  • Excellent time management skills
