About the opportunity

The Generation and Storage Solutions team is geared towards providing a more integrated approach offering end-to-end service to support our clients in renewable generation, thermal generation, and storage solutions space. We are helping our clients meet the challenges in providing stable base load supply, replacing conventional thermal power plant with renewable energy and developing demand side management strategies.

We are seeking a highly motivated mechanical engineer with at least two years’ experience in renewable and/or thermal generation. Experience working as a consultant, in an original equipment manufacturer (OEM), a generator or a developer on utility scale power generation projects is required. Applicants should have studied basic electrical and thermodynamics subjects as part of their Mechanical Engineering Degree.

The role will involve working as part of an enthusiastic team, based in the Jacobs Melbourne office. The range of project technologies will include renewable generation (wind, solar and bioenergy), conventional thermal generation (steam and gas turbine cycles), reciprocating engines, gas pipelines, storage and conditioning, and waste to energy plants. In particular, experience in wind analysis will be looked upon favourably.

The work will typically include\:
  • Concept design and development
  • Energy yield assessments (solar, wind & bioenergy)
  • Thermodynamic plant performance modelling
  • Feasibility studies
  • Operational and performance analysis
  • Technical specifications
  • Technical due diligence
  • Owner’s engineering services (before and during construction)
There will be opportunities to visit sites across Australia and Asia/ Pacific during the development, construction and operational phases as part of our service delivery.

About you

Skills required\:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering
  • Minimum two years of experience working in the renewable or thermal energy sector
